While I am not a fan of traditional Mexican food, I always find something good at a Mexican restaurant to eat. While visiting the fairly new La Catrina in Forked River, New Jersey, I actually tried a dish I have never encountered in a restaurant before. It's called Abondigas En Salsa Chipotle, which basically is spicy meatballs. The dish consists of four beef meatballs in a Chipotle Sauce. It is served with rice and beans, as well as tortillas on the side.
The meatballs in this sauce really brought the heat, which is a good thing because it forces me to drink more. It is also a deceiving meal because this plate filled me up quite fast. When I look for spicy dishes, I don't want the flavor to suffer and it certainly didn't here. I would order this meal again in a heartbeat.
The atmosphere of the place also puts you in a good mood, as the Mexican music continues playing with the song titles and artists listed on the television screen. Christmas lights and streamers highlight the dining room alongside some cool posters. I was almost tempted to purchase a pinata for an upcoming party. They will be serving samples at the upcoming Bounty Of The Bay at the Lacy United Methodist Church in October. I am sure they will be a hit!
