I have grown very fond of Thai food but the rest of my household doesn't share the same love. However, when my birthday rolls around, I get to pick the place we get to have dinner. I am ecstatic that I found Chang Thai Kitchen in Toms River, New Jersey. It is the closest restaurant to me that offers authentic Thai food. The funny thing is that those who join me claim to enjoy their meals but never suggest it as a frequent dining experience, which I would love.
I started off with an appetizer. The Satay was delicious. The grilled chicken marinated with coconut milk was tender and went well with the sides of Thai peanut sauce and cucumber relish. The peanut sauce also works well as a dressing on salad.
My main course was Green Curry with Chicken. Served with Jasmine Rice, this dish contains Eggplant, Bamboo Shoot, Long Hot Chili and Basil. Also made with Coconut Milk, this dish is rated with two chili peppers, which is how they distinguish the spiciness of each dish. I have had this meal before at this restaurant and I believe they increased the level of heat this time around, which I welcomed. One of the things that I love about Thai Food, and Chang Thai does it very well, is that no matter how much heat is in your dish, the wonderful flavor is still maintained.
I tried something different for dessert this time as I ordered Ube Ice Cream, made from purple yams, with Coconut Milk Cream and Sticky Rice. This heavenly dessert was the perfect way to end the dining experience. Hopefully, I won't have to wait another year to return to this amazing restaurant!
