In theory, anyway. I'm currently growing some spinach from seed in my little indoor garden. Canada continues to segregate people who have not taken at least 2 doses of Pfizer or Moderna. In some provinces, access without "vaccination passport" to grocery stores is being threatened. It's the middle of winter, and my wife is pregnant, so I'm growing spinach - INSIDE - as a source of nutritional iron. Although I'm familiar with growing food outside, and with growing cannabis inside, this is new to me. I hope I can combine my skills, utilize what I have on hand, and cultivate some leafy greens in my livingroom!
They are looking tasty already! I'll have to contain myself. : P
I think they would benefit from more airflow, but my little fan doesn't do much because the seedlings aren't tall enough to reach up into the breeze. Hmmm.
I have about 20 in total up now. A few will be removed to make way for a larger/healthier seedling. I should end up with about a dozen as they get larger.
They're still at the cotyledon stage (just the stem and two pre-leaves). The actual plants will begin growing from this base platform over the next few days.
I might be able to harvest some leaves in a couple weeks.
I have not fertilized or used any products so far. Just plain water and organic soil composed of peat moss and depleted worm castings. I might have to add something if I want to harvest more than a wisp of spinach, we'll see. If I do, it will be from organic nutrient sources, like blackstrap molasses, compost, epsom salts, etc.
Due to recent historic flooding and mudslides, causing damage to highways and bridges, there is a shortage of food in my region (Southern BC). Produce is one of the hard-hit sections of the grocery store. Prices are high and selection is low. Additionally, my wife and I can't drive, and don't have family support. During the winter, we are essentially shut in. It's very hard to get food and baby supplies. Now, segregation of people who haven't accepted Pfizer or Moderna as their personal savior. All this makes me very motivated to do my best to succeed at generating my own food source.
Your advice and positive vibes are appreciated. Stay tuned to see what I can accomplish! : D
