I normally shy away from eating at any restaurant in a shopping mall because you are essentially guaranteeing that you are going to pay too much for your food. However, this was not my decision. My friend was meeting some people here and asked me to come along so I did.
First off, the overall atmosphere is incredible. You are on the roof for starters and I think everyone enjoys a rooftop bar / restaurant. I really felt like I was somewhere special... or expensive... probably both.
The staff were attentive and the weather was perfect for the evening so things were looking good. I was surprised to see that the prices were much less than I expected from a place like this. Starters were all $5-8 and main courses aside from something weird and exotic like lobster were mostly between $10 and $15. The presentation of the food was great but unfortunately that is kind of where the good feeling ended.
Here we have grilled salmon, bacon and prawn garlic bread, something sushi related, and a salmon salad and no, this was not all for me but i did try them all.
The presentation was great the wait time was short but the problem was that it was just all very bland. Also the garlic bread (which I always look forward to) was so crispy... too crispy actually to the point where it would crumble when you touch it. This lead me to believe that the bread was not actually toasted it was just old the way a baguette gets if you don't eat it in a few days.
Also, everything had some sort of sweetener added to it including the sushi (that's thousand island dressing all over the sushi -wtf?) Anyone that has been to Thailand can attest to the fact that Thai's love strong flavors including (perhaps especially) the sometimes excessive use of sugar on just about anything. However, i really can't get on board the sugaring up of raw fish.
Back to the atmosphere:
The band and DJ were very good and played at a reasonable volume so we could still talk to one another and the main feature of this place was the bar, where the mixologists are focused not just on making great drinks but also turning it into a performance. The pinnacle being the creation of their signature drink, the "Fire Lamborghini."
Who doesn't like a bunch of glasses cascading into the serving glass while the entire thing is on fire!?! A crowd would gather any time this drink was made and this ensured the fact that someone else would be ordering it later. Be careful, this drink is the most expensive on the menu at $20 or so (which probably wouldn't even seem expensive to you big city folks from the USA.)
Overall I would say that I am glad that I went here, but if i returned it would be only for the atmosphere and definitely not for the below-average-standard of food.
