I love it when I discover some new food idea that I’ve never heard of before.
It’s especially great when it’s easy and/or healthy and I have all the ingredients to try it. This is one of those times. Okay, have you ever heard of blended oats? I came across the idea on pinterest recently and it was one of those mind-blown moments. I don’t know why I’ve never thought of it before. It’s not complicated at all. The texture is like a slightly grainy yogurt and the flavor is super versatile.
For this recipe I added fresh berries and whole oranges but you could honestly use any type of fruit. Actually, there are pretty much endless possibilities for what you can add as a flavoring. I’m thinking how amazing this would be with chocolate and peanut butter!
I also love that it can be made ahead for a grab and go breakfast. Basically, this is just my new fascination because it’s a great way to even get kids that hate oatmeal to try it.
If you decide to try it I’d love to know what you think!
Berry Orange Blended Oats (Vegan+GF)
Getting tired of your basic oats in the morning? Let's switch things up for Summer!
Prep Time 10 minutes
Servings 4 - 6 servings
Ingredients
Berry Oats:
1 cup oats
1 cup fresh or frozen mixed berries
1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk or any plant-based milk
1-2 tablespoons maple syrup, or to taste (or sweetener of choice)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Orange Oats:
1 cup oats
1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk or any plant-based milk
1 whole orange, peeled and separated into pieces
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
1-2 tablespoons maple syrup, or to taste (or sweetener of choice)
Instructions
Combine all the ingredients for the orange oats in a blender or food processor and blend well. To get it very smooth it took me about 3 minutes.
Scrape into a sealable container and repeat for berry oats. It can be eaten immediately but for best texture I recommend leaving it in the fridge for at least an hour.
Serve in a bowl or layered in jars like the pictures with more fresh berries and whatever add-ins you'd like.
