Out of all the amazing Indian restaurants in Malaysia this is one of my favorites. Jah Hind restaurant is just behind Kuala Lumpur's old court house and serves an amazing buffet of vegetarian Indian delicacies.
I have not been there in many years but my recent visit proved that the food is as good as ever!
This restaurant runs a charitable service. My understanding was that they donated one out of every 10 chapatis to the hungry. I didn't ask but this may have changed over the years but I doubt it. The restaurant itself is unassuming and can be sweltering with heat inside.
Nothing seems to have changed in decades. The old faded chairs are there, the heat is oppressive but it is always full because the food is AMAZING! 😋
Next to the boiling hot plates and griddles is an array of some of the best vegetarian dishes that Indian cuisine has to offer. The array of dishes is too many to mention here and although I know what they taste like I do not even know the names of them all! 😉
The food is so good at this restaurant that when I was younger I couldn't help loading my plate up with delicacies and try as I might I would always find myself leaving food left over. Wasting food is never a good thing but I used to feel particularly bad given the charitable nature of this restaurant.
I have thought about my uneaten food with my mouth watering and my heart sad for many years whenever I think of this part of KL. On this recent trip I was determined to get my portions right and although I ate until I was completely full I managed to leave an empty plate.
Above is the receipt for the meal and the address of the restaurant should any of you be visiting KL and wish to try this amazing place. Be prepared for a hot interior and deteriorated decor but you won't be there for the ambiance, like everyone else you will be there for the food. My advice is don't eat anything before you go!
In a country where prices have risen sharply over the last few years my enormous meal and a can of 100 plus cost a total of USD $2.81. You can't argue with those prices so go and eat to your hearts content. Make sure you get a chapati so that you have contributed to their social program.
I am hungry now just thinking about their food. I may have to make a return visit soon.! 😁
