Hi There :)
We checked out this restaurant which is famous for its noodles which is made on the spot. The story is a Chinese Muslim from China had brought this art form to Malaysia and opened the restaurant and now has over 20 branches in the country. It's called Mee Tarik Warisan Asli.
These noodles known as lā miàn, is prepared by hand. The dough is kneaded and then stretched again and again. The ends are folded and with every stretch the dough becomes thinner and longer. The noodles need to be kept separated, so they don't stick and so speed and skill is needed.
Back in the day (and probably til today), the Chinese believe the length of the noodles symbolise longevity. The longer the better. And these are typically served for birthday celebrations.
And true enough, we were amazed at how quickly the dough became noodles... really long noodles. All under one minute. It was quite therapeutic to watch :)
