Pounded yam served with 'egusi' or 'ogbono' soup.
Pounded yam is made from yam tubers. Yam is the common name for some plant species in the genus Dioscorea (family Dioscoreaceae) that form edible tubers .
I am proudly #Irrua from Esan tribe, Esan Central local government area of Edo State, Nigeria.
The Esan people of Nigeria (about 1.5 million of Nigeria's population) grow yam in abundance, apart from other food stuff like rice, oil palm, cottonseed etc. We also fish from the river Niger at Illushi in Esan land, Edo State.
