Christmas is fast approaching and I wanted to make sure I had some mince pies this year. Especially when there was recent talks about there being a mince pie shortage! I usually do go for the bakery puff pastry mince pies, but as I was in M&S I wanted to check out their ones and compare to the other supermarket ones I've had.

M&S 6 All Butter Puff Pastry Mince Pies

"All-butter puff pastry pies filled with our classic fruity mincemeat containing dried vine fruits. Can be served hot or cold. Heat in the oven for nine to ten minutes to serve hot. Six per pack."

One thing I noticed when I opened the box was that the puff pastry looked quite blonde. Even though there was a lot of sugar crystals on top, I felt like they could be more caramelised and definitely a touch darker. The puff pastry was very flaky but it was kinda hard too. It wasn't the best puff pastry I've had. It wasn't that buttery or sweet. The filling was ok. I felt like that could have had a lot more flavour in it. It tasted quite bland for a mince pie. I thought M&S were meant to be posh, but these could easily have passed for a value pack of mince pies.

I ate them, but would I buy them again? No. These were not fancy in the slightest and not what I was expecting from the great M&S. I think I will stick to my supermarket bakery ones. Very disappointing. "Bah Humbug!!"
