Summer heat really sucks and visiting some resorts was not a good idea since preventive measures and crowded area can be dangerous if we don't take it seriously. In fact last Mother's Day, a resort in Caloocan got huge of bad news reports from individual people who took photos while inside that resort during that special day. The authorities closed that resort after that incident.
However, I decided to bring a little cold temperature on my body by doing a cold drink that can be categorized as street food/drink. It is the common drinks we have when we eat several street foods. It has sago or tapioca pearls and gelatin. Anyways gelatin is commonly know as gulaman. The sweetness comes from caramelized sugar and we called it arnibal.
I do remember my mama used to do it as our small business in front of our house. We sell fishball, kikiam and hot cake (pancake). It was a very long time and I was too young to know how to do it by myself. But today I'm gonna try it and see if I can make it right. I just prepared the following.
Ingredients:
1 whole sachet 25g powdered gelatin (black)
1/4 kilo dark brown sugar
vanilla extract
water
Here's what I did:
1.I place 2-3 cups of water on a pan. Add in the 2 and half teaspoon of gelatin and 1/3 cup of dark brown sugar.
2.Give it a stir till well blended then turn on the stove on low medium heat. Allow it to boil and give a stir too.
3.After 5 minutes or less turn of the flame and transfer gelatin mixture on a flat vessel. Allow to cool till it's hardened. You can also put it on a fridge.
4.After that put 1 cup of dark brown sugar on pan and turn on your stove on low heat. Wait until the sugar slowly dissolves.
5.Once you saw the sugar starts to melt, you can make a twirl side by side and stir it also.
6.Adjust the heat a little bit but make sure that your eyes are on it or else it will burnt. Be extra carefull with it cause it is really hot!
7.Once the sugar melted completely add 2-3 cups of water into it. Don't be nervous if the sugar turned like a stone. It will melt slowly and allow it to boil.
8.Turn of the flame and add 1-2 tsp of vanilla extract. Allow it too cool completely.
9.Get a mug (bigger size is better) put some ice then add caramelized sugar, some water and gelatin.
10.Stir it till well combine, sip and enjoy!
Actually this drink can serve 3-6 glasses and only cost me less than 50 pesos. It is kinda cheaper and I'd still have gelatin and sugar. If you wish to make it at home, just simply adjust the measurement according to your desire servings. It is refreshing and reminds me of myself being around outside the metro.
I hope you'll like my simple food blog today, keep safe and have a good day. Gracias! ❤
