Two things that is coming up in my thought while writing this post. Firstly, Milk is good for health and secondaly ,Old is Gold. It is the feeling that I get when visited the oldest milk shop on the lanes of Varanasi. While most of the modern city rely on alchohol, we have one city which reminds of some healthy drink.
A mild warm, perfectly sweeten milk served in an earthen pot with little bit of cream toppings. It is treat for sure during winter as well as for summer.
Ummm...I can still get the taste in mouth, which is far better than what we get in our home. I didn't figure out the magic though it is the same kind of milk that we get at home. May be the earthen pot or the slow boiling temperature it was getting heated. The taste is quite awesome that I had 3 cup at once.
Those earthen pots were called "kulhad" in hindi so we call it "Kulhad milk" which is quite a famous thing in the by lanes of old Varanasi Street. Looking at the shop noone can tell the especialitty it posses since ages. However if I could visit it once will remember the shop forever.
The shop is not big , but placed right at the corner of the road so it is easily reachable by anyone. A middle age man is serving the milk quite happily.
There was not enough space and the shop is big enough to accomodate one person only. It was half filled with empty "Kulhad" as stock and rest were to keep different utensils. It shows demand of the milk in that area.
And the milk directly getting heated on the iron boiling utensil kept outside the shop. For sure supplier pour the entire milk in that vast utensil and the shop owner do not need to store it. So the target is to boil the entire milk at once and left over will be use to make other sweets item.
The shop owner happily took out the milk using a long handle utensil and pour in large one and then mix them properly with little bit of sugar. Making it a perfect blend. The way he was mixing it shows the years of experience he involved in selling those lovely and delicious Milk.
I feel there is always some magic at some old junction. Like this milk shop has which was as old as the city itself. Situated right beside the busy street. It is always over crowded with customers
I bet, if you get it once you always want more of it. That is the magic the Varanasi city which makes everyone fall in love and make their life more memorable.
