Souvlaki is one of the best known fast foods in Greece, but it is also known in other parts of the world because of the large amount of greeks that live abroad.
In fact, there are pieces of meat passed through a small wooden spit that looks like a big toothpick.
It is eaten alone, in a portion or wrapped with pita bread. In some portions, it can also be found in a metal spit, that depends of the restaurant. It also comes with tzatziki (a greek sauce made of yogurt and cucumber, among other ingredients), tomatoes, onions and fries.
It is usually pork or chicken and rarely calf. Sometimes pieces of meat are interposed with vegetables, mainly peppers.
