It's been awhile since I wrote a sprouting post. I swear it's just pure laziness. (Hahaha) Anyways, let's just get into it.
But first! Why should you sprout Buckwheat? Well Buckwheat is an amazing seed to begin with (See: Buckwheat 101: Nutritional Facts and Health Benefits, but did you know that sprouting your seeds, grains, nuts and legumes boosts their benefits, improves their digestibility and reduces Antinutrient compounds. ( See: The Science of Sprout Nutrition)
Sidenote: Antinutrients are not as bad as they are made out to be. Not only does our body's adapt to them, but they have been shown to fight cancer and other diseases. See my post on it here ⬅️
All you need:
- 1 quart mason jar
- 1/2 cup Buckwheat
- Water (ideally purified)
Add your Buckwheat to the jar and fill it up with water.
Allow the Buckwheat to soak for about 30 minutes.
Drain all the water out
Invert the jar in a bowl at an angle. Leave for an hour. Then rinse the Buckwheat, drain it and invert it in the jar at an angle once again.
Repeat these steps 3-4 fours times a day until the sprouts are about an inch long.
Once sprouted lay the Buckwheat spread out on a piece of cloth to dry. This will help to preserve the sprouted Buckwheat and make it last longer.
The finished product!
You can eat them as is, or add them to meals. They store in the fridge well. You can freeze them for prolonged storage.
