It has been many years now that some of us here at Nature's Renaissance have been dreaming of making our own bread from our own grain. It has taken us a while to realize this dream, but we did it in style! Instead of making bread, we went straight to the PIZZA!!!! It is a wonderful time of the year here, with lots of wonderful ingredients from the fields to add to the Pizzas.
Over the winter we grew an area with vetch and rye. Vetch is a nitrogen fixer and rye adds phosphorous and potassium to the soil, therefore they are good cover crops. At the end of the winter, the rye was looking great and we waited all the way until June when we had a permablitz event and harvested the rye together!
After finding a real stone mill in one of the houses here in the village, we go to it!
As you can see, the kids were very fascinated by the whole process.
