We've already covered those. So let's get straight to wine.

Coravin Model 2

This $300 wine accessory is a unique top of the line wine opener. The significance of the air pressure wine opener is that it allows you to taste a wine without ever opening the bottle. There is a very thin needle that punctures the cork. After you have served yourself a pour, simply pull out the needle. Argon gas, a by-product of wine making is injected into the cork. This prevents oxidation and prolongs the life of the wine. My first encounter with the Coravin was in my restaurant when a customer suggested it. I was apprehensive about opening $300 wines just so a VIP customer could simply taste it. After experiencing success in the restaurant, I decided to buy one for home.

Now let's put it to use...

Latching On

Align the needle with the center of the cork and apply slight down pressure to push the needle pass the cork.

The Pour

Turn the bottle to at least a 45 degree angle. Make certain that there is wine touching the cork. Press the handle to create pressure and when you let it go, the wine pours freely.

The Dismount

Pull the Coravin straight up until the needle has been fully extracted from the cork. The argon gas in the device will naturally seal the cork preserving the integrity of the wine.

Take Away

Coravin wine openers are a very unique and technologically advanced accessory. I do not believe that it is a practical investment for the average wine consumer.
