The food in the Netherlands is REALLY good: super fresh and flavorful. Cheese is unlike anything I've tasted in the US. (This picture is actually "tourist cheese" which is not nearly as good as elsewhere.)
Most of the Netherlands is below sea level. This combined with the extensive system of canals means that the countryside is extremely well irrigated. Plants and therefore livestock are very happy.
The bread was really good, with a wide variety of grains and styles.
And of course desserts.
And last but not least, great beer!
Including some cheap but outstanding imports from neighboring Belgium.
