Smoke stacks over New Skokie New Illinois in the year 2076 belch clouds of greenhouse gasses into the Martian atmosphere. They don't do anything else. They're just trying to build an atmosphere that can sustain life on Mars.
I work in one, and I'm telling you Earthlings that it's just as weird as it sounds.
For someone who grew up dreaming of sustainability and solar energy, using that solar energy to create carbon dioxide from Earth coal, just to put into the air what the scrubbers are trying to take out of Earth's atmosphere... is weird. I hope 200 years from now we're not like, "we should have put a teensy bit less in there..." But why would we? The scientists did the data dance, and mapped the future out with far greater precision than they can on Earth, what with all the unpredictable people and such.
I do wish I worked on the magnets in the north, though. Magnets are still magic to me. I mean, they're pretty dang cool.
Up 19 hours a day. Just walking around the stacks, mostly, looking for anything that the robots might miss. The robots don't miss anything, but, you know, gotta keep a person around. I eat with Carol, my boss. But what is a boss when there's just the two of you. She can override me, but why would she? It's not like I'm going rogue. Nor rouge.
I'm just going. But yeah. Fun times, astronaut-ing. Be impressed, k?
