Well... some challenges are too good to pass. And this is one of them.
I have to blame thank and
for this; and for what's appearing on my feed, it seems a lot more people are taking this challenge, which is just awesome!
So, what are we talking about, anyway?
You'll find all the information here!
The above challenge is organised by Stand up to cancer, a fundraising campaing to help improve/accelerate cancer treatments research. Their webpage does a way better job than me in explaining everything in detail, detailing some of the current projects and efforts, so I won't dwelve into it. But for this month, the challenge is simple: spread the word and do 100 squats daily! You can join the challenge and the fundraising campaign on their website.
We all probably have lost someone close due to cancer, and having spent part of this year supporting one of the closest family members in dealing with 2 different neoplasias, i can say I'm even more sensible to the theme. Either by this initiative, or any other one, contribute if you can; in Portugal, for instance, the Liga Portuguesa Contra o Cancro has also been organizing a fundraising campaign, that finishes today. And they'll give you a fun sticker, like the one I found in my father's shirt earlier today, when I joined him for lunch:
As for this challenge... anything that makes you move and exercise is good! Being in good health is one of the ways you can prevent getting sick in the first place, and squats are a great exercise! I do workout regularly, and today after work, off to the gym!
Since I'm joining on day 4, I have 300 squats due, so started this challenge with some extra weight to start off in the right feet(s)! So, after the regular warm up:
10 normal bodyweight squats
10 warm up squats with bar only (20kg)
3 x 10 weighted squats (30kg)
- 3 sets of 25 bodyweights squats, alternating with deadlifts
Bringing me to a grand total of... 125 squats! And all this while hearing someone in labour pain a guy lifting dumbells, reminding me of a sign I saw in another gym a couple years ago, but that still holds true to this day: Screaming DOES NOT increase your muscle mass. :)
Now that my joints finally seem to be getting better (looong story...), I hope to start hitting the gym more often; either ther or at home, 100 squats a day for this month it is (plus the 275 extra ones I'm still due)!
Helping to fight cancer AND improving you health; sounds like a double win to me! What are you waiting for? (, no pressure, but I'm tagging you too :)
