Like her analogs in Gaza, Pose has posted to social media a continual treatment of her regimen.
Pardess Hannah, July 22 - An overweight resident of this quiet town in Israel's coastal plain has resolved to undergo genetic testing to ascertain whether, as she suspects, she has recent, shared ancestry with Palestinians, because like them, she, too, has loudly proclaimed to subsist on caloric deficit for a long time, with no apparent effect on her waistline or Body Mass Index.
Adi Pose, 35, confessed to friends and acquaintances today that she wants to get herself tested for Gazan DNA, now that she's been dieting for months and months but hasn't lost any weight, and that seems to be a prevalent metabolic characteristic in the Gaza Strip, where locals, NGOs, journalists, and activists have made near-daily dire pronouncements about imminent mass starvation in the Hamas-controlled territory now under Israeli and Egyptian blockade, but with zero documented excess mortality from malnutrition, or even photos of widespread emaciation.
"We must have something in common, and I'm wondering if we're related," she explained to the grocery store proprietor, who agreed that she could still be quite attractive if she shed about twenty kilos. "I remember telling people I'm restricting my food intake almost a year ago, but apparently to no avail."
The proprietor nodded along, noting without words the abundance of foodstuffs in her shopping basket.
"It does make sense," agreed a neighbor who is in the same book club as Pose. "In both cases, there's an awful lot of discussion of hunger, and little evidence to back up the talk."
Like her analogs in Gaza, Pose has posted to social media a continual treatment of her regimen, such as advertising that she has downloaded various step-counting and fitness apps; sharing articles about the minutiae of ketosis and insulin levels; and posting photos and videos of the scenery through which she has driven and believes would serve well for hikes or runs - much in the way that Gaza propagandists have shared images of children with rare medical conditions that wither their bodies, and stage both deaths and rescues in Gaza's rubble.
Pose remains under no illusions that people support her in her weight-loss endeavor. "I'm no fool," she insisted. "I know some of them want to stop hearing about it already, but I need them to know I'm still working at it. If they don't believe me by now, despite my telling them at every opportunity, I'm not sure what else I can do."
