I started looking for alternative products for my monthly needs, when I was planning my first three-month-solo-backpacking-trip last year.
Backpacking really forces you to consider, what to bring. Just because there isn't much space in a backpack ^^
And especially as a woman you need some special items. Things like tampons, pads, pantyliners, you know what I mean.
And at some point I realized that I rather wanted to bring a second pair of pants than packages full of liners and tampons!
Also I didn't know where it would lead me during that time. What if I end up in the outbacks of somewhere, without access to any shops or drugstores, and my tampons are used up?!
So I started researching about alternative products, which are reusable and won't take too much space in my backpack.
And That was my starting point.
As I got deeper into that topic, I realized, that all the products I had known and used before are not only impractical for a traveller, they are also neither good for my body, nor for our Earth!
Not to mention the costs.
Until then I had spent hundreds of Euros for products, packed in plastic, just to throw them away in the end.
I have put things into my body which are possibly full of bleachers and other chemicals.
Yes, it didn't kill me, but I decided that I didn't want to do this to my body anymore.
Of course the commercials only promote the disposable articles, it's always the same old story, they just bring in more money than the reusable ones.
And of course, they are easy and comfortable to use and it's always hard to change habits. I can understand every woman, whose priorities lie elsewhere at the moment.
But I highly recommend keeping that topic in mind.
It's not that hard to find alternative options, there are a lot! You just don't see them on TV.
In my next posts I want to show you some of the products, I have found and used for more than a year now.
I hope I can inspire some of you and also get inspired by you, too, reading about your experiences!
It's so important that we share our knowledge about this topic and support each other :-)
Love, Ana <3
