Banana is the most quality reliant fruit if you ask me. It's the most sold fruit in the world, consistent in its taste and is easy to store and ripen up at home.
A few tips are to look for bulky and big bananas. If they're bulky its a sign that they were picked late and are more mature bananas, compared to the ones that lay super-close to each other on the bunch which is a sign of them being picked too early.
Store bananas in room-temperature if you want them to ripen fast. If you store bananas in a cold room or in the fridge it'll up ripen slower dependant on the temperature.
Always place the bananas the right side down. They should look like a bowed bridge on the counter. This should be done to prevent damaging the bananas. If you place them the other side down they'll easily get bruised because all the weight is only at one point (Nearly all supermarkets make this mistake)
The standard variety which you find in your local supermarket is called "Cavendish" This banana should be eaten when it's spotty and a little bit soft when you press it. Then you know it's ripe, and the riper it is the sweeter.
Some ways to use bananas are to make smoothies, as a sweetener (banana pancakes anyone?) or you could make a delicious fruit-bowl.
A medium sized banana is roughly around 100 calories, A few bananas are excellent if you're hungry between meals.
