Finally, 18 years after I almost did it, a Hempseed processor filed for Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) status for shelled hempseed, oil, and protein powder. Once FDA accepts it, everyone else should be able to use it as well. This takes it out of the "adulterant" status it was before GRAS. Now, if they would only lower the exorbitant price to us and move those millions of pounds of seed from 2016 still sitting in farmers' bins, unpaid and unused, getting older and less-valuable by the day...
