Ölands Nödra Udde, The southern cape of Öland island
I wanted to visit this lighthouse because we visited the Northern Cape of Öland, so I felt "Why not!?" going to the Southern Cape of Öland as well. Also, we wanted to visit there because the whole southern area of Öland is registered as UNESCO World Heritage Site.

On the way to the lighthouse, I felt that I was not in Sweden! The view of the southern part of Öland is like a "savanna" in Africa. The wind from the Baltic sea is very strong so that it is very difficult for trees to grow tall, and also I have heard that the Vikings cut the trees a long time ago for a living, and since then the trees are not coming back yet. It is like Iceland where many trees were cut by the Vikings and the whole forest in Iceland is gone. Well, the Vikings had to cut the tree to live, so it is a part of Swedish history.
Ironically, this very unique view was created by humans and nature for a long time. But, the scenery was very beautiful! It was too bad that we could not stop the car to take pictures because the road was very narrow, and could not stop. Otherwise, you would cause a traffic jam in the very narrow area...😅
As you get closer to the Southern Cape of Öland, you see sheep eating the grasses and they come up to the main road all of a sudden. It was a bit like what I experienced in Åland a few years ago. There are many sheep and goats on the island as well.
The cafe was full of people!!
We wanted to stop by the cafe for a short fika break, but the place was full of people! It seemed that there were many tourists from Europe. But, still, I did not see any tourists from Asia or Africa. I hope the traveling business will come back to normal soon.
What a view! We saw many seals in the sea. They are taking a break 🌊
It took two hours to drive from Kalmar city, so I was a bit tired. I needed to take a break so that I took a nap on the shore. It was very relaxing to take a nap hearing the sounds of waves and the smell of the ocean. There were so many sparrows are hovering over the ocean looking for food to feed their chicks. I was hearing many mixed sounds and made me very relaxed and fell asleep for a few minutes. What a power nap I took!
It is very different from the Northern Cape of Öland although on the same island!
We realized that the southern cape of Öland is geographically very different from the northern cape of Öland. The pebbles on the shore are very different. They are like oval shapes and thin. We could not pile up stones to make a small stone pile as we did on the northern cape of Öland.
The weather was amazing! It was a bit tiring to drive down to the southern cape, but it was totally worth seeing this view!
We were so lucky that the weather was amazing! SO beautiful! We could see many seals are taking a break on the far shore because the weather was very clear. 😀
What a memorable trip we took! It has become one of the best trips we took together. We usually travel overseas, but Covid19 made us realize that there were many wonderful places we have to visit in Sweden as well. And, Öland was a good choice to visit! Hopefully, I can come back to the island sometime later with my friends. I want to show this beautiful view to my mother as well. Now it is time to say good bye to Öland!
