Hello friends of Hive Food! This weekend in my city, after two years of absence, the community fair was held! where various communities from different countries come together to hold a fair where there is a stage with shows and dances typical of the different communities and there are also food stands! It's a very crowded event, and I love going to it, as I get to try foods that I wouldn't normally eat and there's also music and drinks so it's a party!
The fair was held in the center of my city, so with my friend Agustina we attended on Saturday around 8:00 p.m. And it was already completely packed with people. After the pandemic, I still feel somewhat anxious surrounded by so many people, so we took everything easy and went through the entire fair from end to end to see and then decide where we would eat, to spend as little time as possible among the people.
I was looking for my favorite dish - beef shawarma. But all the stalls that sold it were packed with people, so I started with my second favorite: feiojada. It is a typical Brazilian food, a stew of black beans and pork, it brings rice, sausage, bacon, and other meats, along with vegetables and orange. What is particular about this stew is its black color and its intense flavor. I love it ♥ and luckily this dish was very well done. It cost me $500 (Argentine pesos), something like two dollars, and it was a fairly large portion, my friend and I ate and there was even a little left over because I didn't want to fill myself up so I could continue eating haha.
With a slightly calmer stomach we went in search of the shawarma. There were a lot of stalls, that was something that I didn't like very much, because then, who was making the best shawarma? too many options. They all cost the same, $900 (Argentine pesos) something like 4.50 dollars. The booth where we started to line up had 35 people waiting. We stayed for almost an hour, my bad mood grew and unfortunately it got worse when I tried the shawarma and it wasn't as delicious as I expected. It was dry because the sauce was put on the tortilla, and the tortilla was hard on the outside. In addition, they put hot sauce on it and it overshadowed all the flavor. Very disappointed :(
As our mouths were still burning from the spicy shawarma we had to run out to find something to drink, and of course I wasn't going to buy water haha we went straight to find a drink stand. We found a Haitian stand that prepared 750cc drinks for $700 (Argentine pesos), about 3,5 dollars approximately. We chose a drink that was green apple, pineapple, lemon and rum. It was delicious, very fresh and strong on an alcohol level. With half a drink we were both very smiling haha.
At the end of the night, we went through the China stand and bought some breaded shrimp that cost $600 (Argentine pesos), that is, about 3 dollars. I paid him with a thousand Argentine pesos bill, and when he gave me the change I saw that they had some sweet fish, which cost $300 Argentine pesos (2.5 dollars), so I asked him to give me one, and with the $100 that was left over I bought 2 fortune cookies. We ate the prawns and left because it was already getting late to return to our homes by public transport.
Breakfast the next day was coffee with the little fish, which to our surprise was stuffed with Nutella! the dough was waffle, it was sweet and delicious, very fluffy. If I had known I would have bought more haha
The fortune cookie had a message that I loved "Laugh at the good times and the bad too" I thought it was a nice message.
And that was it! everything I ate at the fair. I was left wanting to eat some pasta from Italy and I didn't have the opportunity to eat anything from Venezuela because their stand was full of people! surely there were many recipes that I have read here on hive! They always look very delicious, I hope next time I can eat something. I hope you liked my post! a kiss and a hug, heypuch ♥
