El chocolate es algo que a mi realmente me fascina. Oscuro, amargo, semi amargo, blanco, con leche (aunque no soy tan fan de este último pero lo puedo comer igual). La verdad es que lo disfruto en cada una de sus presentaciones. Incluso lo puedo consumir en el café, que es algo que no me gusta pero si tiene chocolate en su preparación, me animo a probarlo.

Chocolate is something I truly love in any of its presentations: dark, bitter, semi dark, white, with milk (I’m not a huge fan of the last one but I eat it anyway). I could even drink it with coffee which is something I do not like much but if it has chocolate in it, I would definitely try it.

En esta maravillosa ocasión, me hubiese gustado mostrarles los cupcakes y galletas de chocolate que hace mi mami de las cuales me considero su fan desde que era niña, pero por motivos de tiempo y otras cosas más, no será posible recrear sus recetas. Tengo gratos recuerdos de lo feliz que me hacían sentir degustar estas preparaciones. Sin embargo, espero poder realizarlas pronto y compartirlas por acá.

On this marvelous occasion, I would have liked to show you my favorite chocolate cupcakes and cookies which are made by my dear mom. I have been a fan since I was a little girl. I have lovely memories about how happy these desserts made me feel every time I ate them. However, due to different reasons, I can’t show that to you now but I hope I can do it soon.

Como no les voy a hablar de los dulces de chocolate caseros, les voy a hablar mejor de las golosinas con chocolate de las que soy fan ahora. Soy Venezolana y ya tengo 3 años viviendo en Chile, por lo que aquí no era común conseguir mis golosinas favoritas chocolatosas como el Cri Cri y la Samba de fresa, estos dos compiten en el puesto nro uno, seguidos por el Pirulin y el Galak. Aunque hoy en día ya se pueden conseguir en varios minimarkets que han abierto varios venezolanos en la ciudad y los puedo degustar más seguido (no tanto como quisiera porque son más costosos), de igual forma hay otros que me han gustado que son muy populares y también deliciosos.

As I’m not going to show you homemade desserts, I decided to talk about the chocolate sweets I currently love. I am Venezuelan and I have 3 years living in Chile, so it wasn’t common to find my favorite Venezuelan chocolate candies like Cri Cri, Samba, Galak or Pirulin over here. Fortunately, you can find many different Venezuelan sweets nowadays where I live because many Venezuelans have opened minimarkets and sell them. Although, it is not so cheap to eat them so often. That’s why I choose to eat some of the most popular and delicious chocolates that I have discovered here.

Orly

Este chocolate es de la marca chilena Ambrosoli. Hay una gran variedad de estas barras de chocolate, con diferentes rellenos como naranja, almendras, berries; pero una de las que más me gustó fue la de menta. Siempre me había dado curiosidad probar esta combinación que se me hacía bastante rara y cuando lo hice, fue una grata sorpresa. El sabor amargo del chocolate con el toque mentolado provoca una sensación de dulzor y a la vez frescura en el paladar, que vale la pena repetir cada vez que se pueda.

This chocolate is from the Chilean brand Ambrosoli. There is a variety of these chocolate bars with different fillings such as orange, strawberry, berries, almond; but one of my favorites is mint. I had always had the curiosity to taste this “odd” combination and when I did it, it was a great surprise. The bitterness of the chocolate with the mint flavor provokes a sweet and fresh sensation in your palate that it’s totally worthy to repeat it every time you can. I had eaten the whole bar within a day!

SAHNE NUSS

El siguiente es el delicioso chocolate Sahne Nuss. Según lo que pude leer, el nombre significa en alemán “crema de nuez”. Es un chocolate que tiene casi 100 años y es un gran símbolo de las golosinas chilenas. Como mencionaba arriba, no soy fan de los chocolates oscuros con leche pero este me parece muy rico, un poco amargo y no lo siento tan dulce. También me agrada el toque crocante que le agregan las almendras enteras al morder cada bocado.

This chocolate bar is delicious. Its name comes from German and it means “nut cream”. It’s a chocolate that has over 100 years and it’s a big symbol among Chilean sweets. As I mentioned before, I’m not a fan of milk chocolate but I think this one is very delicious, a bit bitter and not too sweet. I also love the crunchy touch that the entire almonds add to every bite.

Son unas bolitas crujientes de chocolate de la marca chilena Costa. De esta línea, he probado varios sabores y de verdad creo que todas tienen su encanto pero mis favoritas son las de centro crocante.¡Irresistibles!

These are crunchy chocolate balls from the Chilean brand Costa. They have several versions of these balls and all of them have their charm but my favorite are the ones with the crunchy chocolate center. They are just irresistible!

HERSHEY'S COOKIES 'N' CREAM

La única vez que lo probé fue en Venezuela, gracias a un amigo que lo trajo de Margarita. Recuerdo que me fascinó pero no lo llegué a conseguir en mi ciudad de nuevo. O creo que sí había en un momento, pero bastante costoso. Es un chocolate estadounidense pero el que puedes encontrar en Chile es importado de Brasil. Definitivamente para mi este chocolate es un delirio. Es toda una experiencia comerlo debido a las sensaciones que te brinda mientras lo estás comiendo. La galleta de chocolate que tiene dentro es como si explotara de sabor en tu boca. Uno de mis favoritos.

The only time that I tried this chocolate was in Venezuela thanks to a friend who brought it from Margarita. I remember that I loved it. What I don’t quite recall is that if I couldn’t find it in my hometown or if it was too expensive to try it again. This is chocolate is from USA but the one you can find in Chile is imported from Brazil. For me, this chocolate is just perfect. It’s such a great experience to eat it because of the crunchiness of the chocolate cookie that has inside it and its creaminess. It’s one of my favorite white chocolates.

BON BON

Por lejos, estos son mis favoritos. Esta es una marca argentina, y en Venezuela probé los bombones, pero después de un tiempo no los volví a ver más. Cuando llegué acá y lo volví a comer, recordé porqué me encantaba tanto. Es un chocolate blanco, relleno de crema de maní. Considero que esta combinación es gloriosa. Por cierto, esta marca tiene muchas variedades. Hay bombones, barras de chocolate, galletas hasta helados. Sin embargo, mis presentaciones favoritas son el chocolate blanco en barra, con cereal crocante relleno de crema de maní y las galletas cubiertas de chocolate y rellenas de crema de maní. Son realmente deliciosos y cremosos. "Donde hay emoción, está Bon o Bon” es el lema de la marca y de verdad que cada vez que voy al super y veo alguno de ellos, no puedo evitar emocionarme y comprar más de uno.

By far, these are my favorites. This is an Argentian brand, which I had the pleasure to eat its bonbons in Venezuela a few times until I just stopped see them at supermarkets. I eat them again here and I remembered why I used to love them so much. It’s white chocolate with peanut butter. I consider myself a fan of this combination; it’s just glorious. This brand has different presentations such as bonbons, bars, cookies and ice cream. However, my favorite ones are the white chocolate bar with crunchy cereal, filled with peanut butter, and the cookies covered with dark chocolate and also filled with peanut butter. The slogan of the brand is “Where there’s emotion, there is Bon Bon” and I believe it's true. Every time I go to the supermarket and see one of them, I can’t help getting excited and buy more than one.

Yo no soy la más aventurera en hacer actividades al aire libre o extremas, pero en cuanto a probar nuevos sabores, si me animo bastante. Siempre que voy a algún sitio de comida, intento pedir algo nuevo que no haya probado antes. Por eso cuando llegué a Chile, al ver que las golosinas son bastante económicas, empecé a probar todos los chocolates que pude, ya que cuando eres migrante, te toca adaptarte a todo y empezar esa búsqueda de encontrar tus nuevos dulces favoritos en tu actual destino.

Let’s say that I'm not the most adventurous when it comes to outdoor or extreme activities, but when it comes to trying new flavors, I'm pretty adventurous. Whenever I go to a food place, I always try to ask for something new that I haven't tried before. That's why when I arrived in Chile, seeing that the candies are quite cheap, I started to try all the chocolates I could, because when you are a migrant, you have to adapt to everything and start that search to find your new favorite sweets in your current destination.
