Seeing is believing: the case of the pumpkin

I hope to harvest this pumpkin because then I can make a flan with it. But the inspiration to write this post came after my neighbor yelled at me: Girl, don't touch her!

When I looked at her, she had a grimace of horror on her face, as if I had seen a pigeon with a dog's face.

I was paralyzed.

I don't know what's going to happen; However, there is a belief that by pointing at it and/or touching it, is going to be ruined.

I know these superstitions exist. Oh, but she had to tell me, I'm always going against the tide. I played it after that 10 more times and photographed it. What saddens me the most if it falls is that I won't be able to make the flan. Because it's not the same to make a flan with my pumpkin than with any other. That one (mine) tastes better. I'm sure you understand.

I started researching and there are a lot of mythical imaginaries in rural areas, yes, you know, related to superstitions or omens.

It is not uncommon, of course not, this is present in our whole lives and has been passed down from generation to generation. Some have even been validated by science, because the fact that the different phases of the moon have an impact on harvests and their times of sowing or harvesting, and even on the cutting of wood, is an example of this.

I'm not sure if it's a superstition that eating mangoes isn't good until after the first rain of May falls. I call on the experts here.

Another thing that is said is that women should not harvest or sow if they have the menstrual cycle because it dries up what they touch (oh my god), well... At home I've always heard it mentioned that you shouldn't make mayonnaise because it's cut and it's not done either no way. I don't get mayonnaise at all.

In any case, we'll have to wait and see what happens with Tere Marañita (Tere Maze).

Yes, I've already named the plant. It's called that because it has no borders. She ((we are already going to personify it)) took the hallway door to herself, and now I can't even close it. When I saw her doing her thing, it's clear that I helped her a little bit and led her up the wall to give me pumpkins that will be baptized with their names as well, of course. This one is called TereMa I.

Cuando la miré tenía en el rostro una mueca de espanto como si hubiera visto una paloma con cara de perro.

Quedé paralizada.

Bueno, si ya te reíste, vamos a seguir con este asuntico de la calabaza.

Yo no sé lo que va a pasar; sin embargo, existe una creencia de que ella, por yo señalarla y/o tocarla se va a malograr.

Sé que estas supersticiones existen. Ay, pero tenía que decírmelo a mí, que siempre voy contracorriente. La toqué después de eso 10 veces más y la fotografié. Lo que más me entristece si se cae es que no voy a poder hacer el flan. Porque no es lo mismo hacer un flan con mi calabaza que con otra cualquiera. Que lo de uno sabe mejor. Estoy segura de que lo entiendes.

Me puse a investigar y existen muchísimos imaginarios míticos en el ámbito rural, sí, ya sabes, relacionados con supersticiones o agüeros.

No es raro, claro que no, esto está presente en toda nuestra vida y han sido trasmitidos de generación en generación. Incluso algunos han sido validados por la ciencia, porque la cuestión de que las distintas fases lunares tienen su impacto en las cosechas y sus momentos de siembra o recolección, y hasta en el corte de la madera, es un ejemplo de ello.

No estoy clara si es una superstición lo de que comer mangos no es bueno hasta después que cae la primera agua de mayo. Convoco aquí a los expertos.

Otra cosa que se dice es que las mujeres no deben cosechar o sembrar si tienen el ciclo menstrual porque se seca lo que toquen (madre mía) , bueno… en casa siempre he oído mencionar que no debes hacer mayonesa porque se corta y no se hace ni atrás ni alante. A mí no me sale la mayonesa de ninguna forma.

De cualquier manera, habrá que esperar a ver qué sucede con Tere Marañita.

Sí, ya le puse nombre a la mata. Se llama así porque ella no tiene fronteras. Se cogió la puerta del pasillo para ella sola y ahora no puedo ni cerrarla. Cuando la vi haciendo lo suyo, está claro que la ayudé un poco y la guié por el muro para que me diera calabazas que serán bautizadas con sus nombres también, por supuesto. Esta se llama TereMa I.
