Schlichte Raubfliege ■ Robber fly
Machimus rusticus (Meigen, 1820)
Immer wieder faszinierend sind für mich die Raubfliegen. Sie sitzen meistens an ihrem Ansitz. Von dort aus jagen sie ihre Beute, die sie im Flug fangen und mit ihrem Stechrüssel betäuben oder töten. Für den Menschen sind Raubfliegen nicht besonders gefährlich, da sie meist sehr scheu sind. Sie stechen nur bei großer Gefahr. Der Stich soll schmerzhaft sein, aber das ist der von Bienen und Wespen auch. Diese stechen auch nur, wenn sie in Bedrängnis geraten.
Again and again I am fascinated by robbery flies. They usually sit at their hide. From there they hunt their prey, which they catch in flight and stun or kill with their sting trunk. For humans robbery flies are not very dangerous, because they are usually very shy. They only sting when they are in great danger. The sting is said to be painful, but so is that of bees and wasps. These also only sting when they are in distress.

Das von mir gezeigte Exemplar habe ich auf Silikatmagerrasen am frühen Morgen entdeckt. Es war noch zu kalt und so verspürte die Raubfliege wenig Lust zum Fliegen. So hatte ich die Möglichkeiten, das Insekt von allen Seiten zu fotografieren, ohne dass es die Flucht ergriffen hat.
I discovered the specimen I showed on silicate grassland in the early morning. It was still too cold and so the robber fly felt little desire to fly. So I had the opportunity to take pictures of the insect from all sides without it taking flight.

Als Unterscheidungsmerkmale von anderen Raubfliegen sind die helle Binde an den Kniegelenken, die weißen Borsten auf dem Rücken und die groben hellen Borsten an den Beinen zu nennen. Im Bereich der Oberschenkel sind diese feiner gezeichnet. Beim Weibchen steht das Genital am letzten kegelförmigen Segment hervor.
As distinguishing characteristics of other robbery-flies, the light bandage at the knee-joints, the white bristles on the back and the coarse light bristles at the legs are to be named. In the area of the thighs these are more finely drawn. In females, the genital protrudes at the last conical segment.

Abschließend noch ein Bild vom Habitat der Raubfliege. Zu dieser Jahreszeit ist das weitläufige Grasland vertrocknet. Normal wird dieses Gebiet jährlich mit Schafen beweidet. Dieses Jahr scheint der Schäfer eine Pause zu machen.
Finally a picture of the habitat of the robber fly. At this time of the year the extensive grassland has dried up. Normally this area is grazed with sheep every year. This year the shepherd seems to take a break.
