Kepa Arrizabalaga has not had the best time at Chelsea, and has long looked like a man with no future at the club. Therefore, it was a little surprising that Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel yesterday chose to give playing time to Kepa, and therefore to bench Edouard Mendy, but that does not mean a change in the goalkeeper hierarchy in Chelsea.
"Edou Mendy Is number one and he is clear," Tuchel said after yesterday's match to Chelsea's website.
The choice was to give Kepa rhythm, and build his confidence, not only in the cup, but also in a home game at Stamford Bridge. The hope was that he could deliver a good effort and keep a clean-sheet.
Edou will be in the goal from now on, as he has recovered well physically and mentally. Right now, today he is number one.
So there is no need to worry about those Chelsea fans who do not feel so safe with Kepa in goal.
