A new timing belt was placed, each of the corresponding gaskets were placed, both the camera, the valve cover, the gasket of the exhaust manifold and the exhaust downpipe. Everything was done step by step, with the necessary care. Once the engine block was fully assembled, we put the 4 liters of oil, but first, of course, we put the oil filter.

When it was fully assembled, we started it, but the mechanic noticed that the way in which it started, that in fact there were difficulties, we suspected that the starter could be failing. The truth is that we started it, we noticed that it was a little accelerated and we adjusted the minimum on the carburetor. We went for a ride around the neighborhood with the car, and I must confess that the difference is a lot, now I perceive that the car has much more power. It has been great to have been able to repair the engine, something I liked was that together with the mechanic I learned about mechanics because as I had told you before, this is my first vehicle and my knowledge of mechanics did not exceed the change of a tire and adjust the battery terminals.

I can't say that I know about mechanics now, but I subtly know a little more. Now, to continue with the story, the engine was great, but now there is a problem with the ignition. And the mechanic told me that I should check the starter, but it was the weekend, and I decided to leave it for this week. So on Monday, I asked a neighbor who repairs cars, if he knew about starters, and he said yes, and on Monday afternoon he came to check the starter. We took it down, and he showed me what the starter was because here between us, I didn't know how to identify the starter.

He opened it up, and what a surprise! It was in perfect condition, at that moment he asked me if I had tried to start the car with another battery, and in fact I had not done it, so he looked for the battery of his car, and we tried to start my car and it started perfectly. He asked me if I had a voltmeter, and I immediately looked for my tester. I put it to measure 20 volts, and I measured my battery, the poor thing did not even reflect 11 volts, it was damaged.

It was obvious, it was necessary to get a new battery, or at least a used battery that was rebuilt, and this was what I did, because the money was not enough for a new battery, that have a cost between $60 and $70 USD. Instead, I found a man near my house who rebuilds them and he gave me a 700 amperage battery for 25$ leaving the battery I had been using. He gave me two months of warranty, and I told my wife that if the battery lasted that long or a little more, it would give us time to save the necessary to buy a new battery with a longer life, this happened yesterday.

In truth, it has been quite an adventure these last few weeks, and despite the stress, cutting costs to be able to buy parts and pay the mechanic for his service that was really very good, it is satisfying to know that we did it, here at home we are very happy because we have accomplished what we set out to do. But not everything is solved, there are still some things to do, but we go step by step every day giving love and affection to the family car that we have baptized with the name of "Bee ", because as we have already mentioned, we were able to achieve this dream of acquiring a car and it was thanks to Hive.

¡Hemos reparado el motor! "Misión cumplida"

Después de unas largas semanas hemos culminado el proceso de reparación del motor de nuestro vehículo. Pero déjenme contarles como fue todo este último tramo final de la reparación. El viernes pasado, salí a comprar los repuestos que faltaban, lo que ya les había mencionado en el post pasado. Así que ese día por la tarde me comuniqué con el mecánico, y al siguiente día vino a terminar el armado del motor.

Se le colocó una nueva correa de tiempo, se le colocó cada una de las empacaduras correspondientes, tanto la de cámara, la tapa de válvulas, la empacadura del multiple del escape y la del bajante del escape. Todo se fue haciendo paso a paso, con el cuidado necesario. Ya con el bloque del motor totalmente armado se le colocó los 4 litros de aceite, pero antes, claro le colocamos el filtro de aceite.

Cuando estuvo totalmente armado, lo prendimos, pero el mecánico percibió que por la manera en la cual prendió, que de hecho hubo dificultades, sospechamos que pudiese estar fallando el arranque. Lo cierto es que lo prendimos, notamos que estaba un poco acelerado y le ajustamos el mínimo sobre el carburador. Dimos una vuelta por el vecindario con el carro, y debo confesar que la diferencia es mucha, ahora percibo que el carro tiene mucha más fuerza. Ha sido estupendo haber podido reparar el motor, algo que me gustó fue que junto al mecánico aprendí sobre mecánica ya que como se los había comentado antes, este es mi primer vehiculo y mis conocimientos de mecánica no excedían el cambio de un neumático y ajustar los bornes de la batería.

No puedo decir que ahora sé de mecánica, pero sutilmente conozco un poco más. Ahora bien, para seguir con el relato, el motor quedó estupendo, pero ahora se presenta un problema en el encendido. Y el mecánico me dijo que debía chequear el arranque, pero ya era fin de semana, y decidí dejarlo para esta semana. De modo que el día lunes, le pregunté a un vecino que repara autos, si sabía sobre arranques, y me dijo que sí, y el lunes por la tarde vino a revisar el arranque. Lo bajamos, y me enseñó cuál era el arranque porque aquí entre nosotros, yo no sabía identificar el arranque.

Lo abrió, y ¡vaya sorpresa! Estaba en perfecto estado, en ese momento me pregunta si había intentado encender el auto con otra batería, y pues en verdad no lo había hecho, de modo que busca la batería de su auto, y probamos encender mi carro y encendió perfectamente. Me preguntó si tenía algún voltímetro, y enseguida busqué mi tester. Lo coloque para medir 20 voltios, y medí mi bateria, la pobre no reflejaba ni 11 voltios, estaba dañada.

Era obvio, había que conseguir una batería nueva, o por lo menos una batería usada que estuviese reconstruida, y esto fue lo que hice, porque el dinero no me alcanzaba para una batería nueva, que tienen un costo entre $60 y $70 USD. En cambio, conseguí cerca de casa un señor que las reconstruye y me dejaba una de 700 de amperaje en 25$ dejándole la batería que venía usando. Me dió dos meses de garantía, y pues le comenté a mi esposa que, si efectivamente la batería nos duraba eso o un poco más, nos daba tiempo para ahorrar lo necesario para comprar una batería nueva con una mayor vida útil, eso de comprar la batería sucedió el día de ayer.

En verdad, ha sido todo una aventura estas últimas semanas, y a pesar del estrés, de recortar gastos para poder comprar los repuestos y pagarle al mecánico por su servicio que en verdad fue muy bueno, es satisfactorio saber que lo logramos, acá en casa estamos super contentos porque hemos cumplido lo que nos propusimos. Pero no está todo resuelto, faltan algunas cosas por hacer, pero vamos paso a paso cada día dándole cariño y amor al auto familiar que hemos bautizado con el nombre de “Bee”, ya que como ya le hemos comentado, pudimos lograr este sueño de adquirir un auto y fue gracias a Hive.
