Many moons ago someone told me about the Emotional Guidance Scale that Abraham, channelled by Esther Hicks, teaches about.
I found it an incredibly useful concept for understanding why I wasn't able to manifest the things I wanted.
It also helped me understand why I found it so darn difficult to "just be grateful" (as so many people in my industry teach as a way to improve our lives) when I was experiencing frustration or anger; they're simply too far apart from each other vibrationally.
Over the years, I've used my understanding of this teaching a lot and eventually it came to my attention that this is the work of the late Dr David Hawkins. He called it the Scale of Consciousness (aka Map of Consciousness or Levels of Consciousness).
There are more graduated levels than what's on the generated image below, but if you've never seen this before then just think about all the so-called 'negative' emotions - they're all towards the bottom.
Usually, these are the ones people don't like feeling and may avoid at all costs. Shame, guilt, powerlessness, helplessness and despair all score really, really low (below anger).
Fear and all its permutations including worry, panic and terror are super low on this scale as well.
Things start to feel a bit lighter and, importantly, our life starts to work better, when we can spend a chunk of our days hanging out in that middle zone where you can see neutrality, willingness and acceptance.
It's strange, but even if aspects of your life totally suck then the most you can accept what is, as it is the easier your life will get and better things will come to you just because you're holding a higher vibrational state.
It's hard though, to not react to the 3D physical world around you. If things feel "unfair" then it's natural to feel angry about that. But if you can find a way to sit with the idea that, "Yes, it is unfair. But there is nothing I can do about it and I may as well just accept it and focus on other things that I do have control over," then, amazingly, things will begin to shift and get better.
The trick is you have to feel better first and then parts of your life begin to change as a reflection of how you're feeling!
But you've got to think of this like a ladder: You need to climb up one or two rungs at a time. You can't just magically fly up 15 in one go!
If you can get from the lower vibrations of guilt, worry or all-consuming frustration and consciously creep your way up to taking pride in your actions, and then feeling courageous that you've done hard things, then you can totally keep going and move towards acceptance of what is.
The good news is, the journey doesn't end; you can just keep feeling better and better. You can hang out in intellectual land, where you rely on reason and logic, feeling grounded in being smart and knowing stuff.
But what's even better is if you keep climbing and put as much attention as possible on what you love each and every day.
Gratitude lives up here as well, along with joy, excitement for life, and genuine happiness.
If you want to shoot for the stars, you can keep gently spiralling up, looking for the things that bring you a sense of peace and stillness in this crazy world.
And if you reach the level of enlightenment in this lifetime, well... you probably don't need to read this post ;)
Thanks ChatGPT for creating this image for me based on the one I found here.
Have you heard of either the Emotional Guidance Scale or the Scale of Consciousness before?
If so, let me know in the comments!
If not, did what I share here make sense to you and do you feel like you can make use of this teaching?
