So,I had to rush because they chose today to replace my AC, both inside and outside units, meaning I could not get into my kitchen.
This is for the #qurator Hive Top Chef competition Rice Challenge
Although I have several varieties of rice, I wanted to try something new, using plain white rice as a palette
Yes, that is a piece of Leek I bought at the international farmers market yesterday.
I've never eaten leek, let alone cooked with it.
(Yes, that is the main dish up top)
I decided to go with Julienne cut rather than ringlets
Then I went out to my deck and picked some fresh Basil (for some reason it doesn't look happy)
Basil has a relatively strong aromatic to it, so a 'little dab'll do you'(most of you are too young to remember that "Brylcreem commercial")
The ubiquitous bacon fat
The last of the store bought cherry peppers were chopped to go into the rice as it cooked, mainly for color. The curry powder gave the rice some yellow coloring
This is a roasted Poblano Pepper, which I cut in half and used as a bed/garnish for the meat
You've already seen this up top, but everything hadn't quite come to a boil.
I put the Leek slivers in the bacon fat first, then added water and rice.
I almost blew it because I was in a hurry, and had half as much water as I needed.
I fixed that pronto
My always useful grill pan
Here it is dressed and awaiting the meat.
Side Note, that is a piece of "Tip Blade Steak" also a new thing for me
The Poblano awaiting the Steak
That is crusted with seasoned salt and Curry Powder (also a new thing for me)
Some "Liquid Fire" Salsa Roja left over from a recent trip to a Mexican food restaurant
And here you have it. I ended up putting the meat under the broiler to finish, mainly because the rice wasn't done yet.

I'm confused, the rules say I'm supposed to use #qurator as my first tag, but since I'm posting TO the community, as far as I know it WILL be the first tag
