Being a prisoner in one's own home just ain't nice; well that's how this strict lockdown makes me feel!
Of course I will be craving all kinds of forbidden stuff that I don't have in my house right now!
How about popping a decadent Chocolate with a molten Chocolate heart into my mouth right now, you know the kind I mean?
Or a double thick Chocolate Milkshake with a creamy dense foam on top?
If you feel like having a hot Chocolate at bedtime, I'll secretly slip a chocolate flake into the hot drink for extra indulgence?
A Chocolate Ice Cream is another favourite - double choc dipped at that!
Then there are other kinds of Chocolate treats like this ChocChilli Liqueur we bought on a pre-lockdown vacation in the Western Cape; made it back home just in time! It was quite a weird combination but it works, the flavour is amazing but leaves you with a hot hot tongue afterwards; great to clear the sinuses though!
Enough dreaming for now, let's get to the real thing and see what's in the pantry store.
I found real good cocoa powder and remembered an old favourite - a decadent Chocolate Fudge Pud - soft chocolate sponge with a crusty layer and a rich chocolate sauce underneath.
This recipe has been in our family for yonks and was passed on by my Granny. Very basic ingredients required which makes it really great for times like this as we can't run to the store on a whim during lockdown!
These two are the most exotic ingredients in this decadent hot pud!
CHOC FUDGE PUD RECIPE
Sift together:
- 250ml Cake Wheat Flour
- 10 ml Baking Powder
- 40ml Cocoa Powder
- Pinch of Salt
Add & mix:
- 200ml Sugar
Add & stir till smooth batter is obtained:
- 50 gram melted Butter
- 125ml Milk
- 5ml Vanilla Essence
Spoon into sprayed oven dish
Sprinkle the following on top of raw batter in order given & do NOT be tempted to mix; I know it looks messy but it's meant to!
- 125ml White Sugar
- 125ml Brown Sugar
- 4 Tbsp Cocoa Powder
- 250ml cold Water
Bake at 180°C for 30-40 min or till cooked - test by pushing a skewer into centre of pud, if there's no dough on, you're all done.
See what I said; all crusty on top but look inside!
All that mess that was on top has now gone to the base of the sponge pud and made a rich Chocolate Sauce!
Served as is or with homemade Custard, Ice Cream or even just whipped Cream; heavenly!
BON APPETIT MY FRIENDS!
This has been my contribution towards ’s Hive Top Chef Competition, and of course you've guessed the theme by now - CHOCOLATE.
