Every week
hosts a fun contest in the Feathered Friends Community. This week's theme is Free. Doesn't cost you a penny to enter and you can share whatever you want as long as it's a bird.
So I'll share esos Buitres de Pavo. They're Turkey Vultures but I wanted to say it in Spanish because I took the photos less than a mile away from the Mexican border hence I'm pretty sure these guys are bilingual.
I got some pictures of these buddies snacking on a gull carcass but I haven't processed them yet.
They aren't as pretty as these shots.
And now that I'm looking at these, I really regret not sharing them on Valentines Day.
I think these birds are so beautiful. So ornate with their black velvet fuzz over red wrinkles, and their faces that look like painted skulls. And those feathers! Iridescent black etched with gold. I remember one of my teachers who was Choctaw Native saying that when they didn't have eagle feathers available for ceremonies they used turkey vulture feathers. I could be remembering that wrong, though, and it may have been just turkey feathers. If anyone here knows, please fact check me.
Ok, I'm done rambling. Thanks for admiring these beauties with me.
Happy Belated Talon-tines Day.
