Friends, everyone reading me today, one of the best things I did to close out 2025 was FIX MY FLOOR. I’ll tell you that it has been one of the most titanic but transformative tasks I’ve done for my house and I’ll give you the details. When I moved in, back around 2020 (it feels like it was just yesterday 😍), I wanted to install a trendy and cheap floor: microcement. It turns out they didn’t know how to install it, and it ended up like any ordinary cement floor, which, over the years, cracked, came loose, and urgently needed replacement. Of course, I grew up seeing polished cement, ceramic, and the most luxurious, porcelain tiles; studying my options, cement was no longer my goal, ceramic would require an investment of more than $500, and porcelain was unthinkable for my budget 🙃.
It turns out that these alternatives of vinyl flooring came up, which I started following on my social media, and believe me, it was love at first sight. What I loved is due to it being economical, easy to install, and durable. In addition, the colors and combinations I had seen were spectacular. I told you [in this post] about the pending matter of not having installed them because it involved putting down a subfloor, cement, cleaning, organizing, and I honestly didn’t feel like moving things around. What made me decide that this was the day to start installing my floor? I’ll tell you.
When I was fixing up the house after [We fixed the garden - part four] and [painting the walls - part five], I came across the fact that I no longer had anywhere to place the sheets I had already bought; on the other hand, it turned out that many of them were already full of moisture and losing their adhesive, so I told myself: "Either I put them up or I will lose them all," and thinking about that, one Sunday afternoon I got down to work. The first thing I did was wash the floor. I washed it about 4 times with water and detergent, and it was impressive how dirt, dust, and grease kept coming off the floor. I realized that, although we don’t see it, the floor is always dirty and I wasn’t cleaning it properly 😟:
I placed a fan to dry the floor faster and start laying the floor.
One of the first drawbacks that I already knew I would have was having bought sheets of different colors; it looked like this in the first presentation:
In order not to leave the project aside, I decided to cut several, of different sizes, and from there be the starting point. Entrusted to God, because my mom looked at it with a bad face, I did this:
Looking at it with affectionate eyes, I see that it turned out GREAT! What do you all think?
The second limitation I encountered was that my house is "kind of sideways," that is, everything was going well, stuck together like a Lego, but at some point, around the corners, the door, and the counter, blank spaces started appearing and that's where I really took a long time because I had to measure those blanks, cut each sheet millimetrically, and then place it in the spot. If you are detail-oriented, you will notice, but I also think I got it 100/100 😎:
The last limitation was that I ran out of sheets (I already knew it would happen) and I ended up buying like 2 more boxes because I miscalculated the required amounts 🙃. Again, I recommend always having money saved, since you always end up spending a bit more than initially planned 😞. I loved the color I bought afterward and I said that, if I have some new money, I’ll buy that color and replace the previous one; it’s a big job, but not impossible 😎:

For me, it turned out beautiful; it certainly gave my floor a turn that looks elegant. Also, cleaning becomes much easier and faster. Additionally, the care is minimal; we just make sure not to wet it or have damp things on it. The downside is that some lost their adhesion, others were damaged due to being stored for a long time, and I have to replace them, but overall I am very happy with the result. I hope it lasts me many years before I can change it to some other material. I recommend it 300000%, so if you have any questions, I am available to answer them before you decide on it 😎.
