I consider myself lucky enough to live on the edge of Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire, England. We are famous in these parts for having the legend of Robin Hood. Maybe because of this legend, we still have the forests and the trees and no-one has dared to cut them down. They also make a great place to go shoot in the dark!
Sherwood Nights
Holding a very heavy LED Lenser X21r2 Flashlight aloft for 30 seconds isn't easy. Here did just that for quite a few variations this evening. This was maybe the best of the bunch with me firing strobes and waving lights during Neil's arduous task. The apparent "grain" in the shot isn't digital noise; it's actually rain!
Custom white balance
I've never been one for sticking a camera on "auto" and always like to experiment with the white balance. Here I've dialled the WB down to 3800 Kelvin:
Stranger Things
I am reliably informed that this PoV was reminiscent of a TV programme called Stranger Things. I have absolutely no idea what that is; I just like lighting stuff up in the dark!
There can be only One!
This place, Roche Abbey in South Yorkshire, reminded of a scene out of the cult sci-fi, "Highlander" These shots are quick and simple to set up but the location certainly doesn't do any harm here:
Urbex Lightpainter
It's great having a flashlight with such a beam; it opens up creative possibilities I wouldn't otherwise have thought of. The X21r2 creates a great beam but the spill of light also lit the inside of this structure which I hadn't expected to be so pronounced:
The Duke of Portland's Grotto
For this shot, I suspect we might have been trespassing on the Duke of Portland's estate. This was a quick gun and run shot on one of the old coach roads leading to the estate.
About me:
I usually specialise in shooting lightpainting images but occasionally dabble in urbex and artistic model photography. I'm always on the lookout for someone to collaborate with; please don't hesitate to get in touch if you'd like to create art.
