Hi, Peakd friend, and all of my pals in food and culture. This is my second time writing some articles in this community, and now I will explain the best recipes of the most viral dessert in my country, Indonesia, which has a lot of meaning for me. If I don't have enough money for fancy food, then I must have an option to make this dessert to fulfill my satisfaction or craving for snacking.
Yes, so at this time I will talk a lot about Banana Fritters, which I can make maybe twice a month, or this dessert is one of the many kinds of menu that I and my family cooked whenever we craving for some comfort food.
Banana fritters are a simple recipe that needs just a few ingredients. It needs a set of bananas, which are not a kind of sunpride (the most famous kind of banana has a beautiful yellow colour) because of that banana is prefers for a fruit not to be cooked. In my country, the kinds of bananas which is perfectly to be deep frying have three different varieties: Uli, Kepok, and Tanduk.
Usually, this banana fritter has a different style from many of home-cook, with many kinds of techniques. For example, how your technique is used to cut the bananas and the kind of batter involved with the results are the factors that affect every person who deep fries these bananas, resulting in different typical styles. This is one of the unique and interesting parts of cooking, right?
My Style of Banana Fritter and The Recipe's
Honestly, I am poor at cooking, because I am not really smart at many skills, like peeling some vegetables or the Indonesian wet and dry seasoning mixed, which is very important in many Indonesian dishes. However, I was helped a lot by many SNS that provide many recipes from many content creators, which is when I want to cook some kind of menu, I'll go then to search for it on SNS like TikTok or Reels, and finally I can re-create that menu.
But a banana fritter is somewhat different from other dishes that I'm capable to cook thats. So, this menu has a simple recipe, and it is easy to make by using all-purpose flour or any branded banana fritter flour. In my country, there are many brands of banana fritter flour, but I know only two kinds that are mostly known: Sasa or Kobe.
For the banana type, I also always use the Tanduk banana, which has a yellowish-golden colour and small seeds in the centre of its fruit. Tanduk banana is somewhat a high-level kind of banana because of its more tastefulness and its cost more pennies than the Uli and Kepok banana. Meanwhile, the Tanduk Banana, which is sold by the grocery mobile in my home, costs Rp15.000 for 3 long Tanduk bananas, which is less than $1 USD, but for the full ingredients, it must cost more than $1 USD.
I also cut my bananas into the Jacqueline technique using a knife, which I know is knife style when my younger self used to watch the series of Masterchef series both in Australia and America. Yes, I am a big fan of Gordon Ramsay, George, Gary, or Matt, the judges of the cooking TV program show.
Ok, then I think it's enough to discuss the banana fritter, so we can go to the next important thing for my full recipe of banana fritters. Here is the recipe:
- 3 pieces of Tanduk Banana
- 2 small-sized packs of all-purpose flour for banana fritters (which include baking powder, vanilla extract, and sugar)
- 3 tbs of flour
- 2 tbs of sugar
- a few sprinkles of sesame seed
- 200 ml water
- palm oil for deep frying
The steps:
- Peel off the banana skin and cut it into a few medium-sized chunks with a diagonal style, set aside
- In the bowl, mix the all-purpose banana fritter flour with flour and sugar
- Put water into the bowl a little by a little until it is consistent and stir it until it is silky, smooth, and runny. (I recommend avoiding the thick batter)
- Sprinkle the ready-to-go batter with sesame seeds
- Put the cut bananas into the batter and fried its one by one in the medium size of wok filled with hot oil. (you can use a tong, a spoon, or a fork to put them into the wok)
- Fried it until golden brown
So, that is my banana fritters recipe, and if you want to recook this recipe, it's alright to go with other types of bananas served in your country. I hope I can write another recipe more in the food and culture community. See you soon, guys.
