Today is the day I present myself to the HIVE community.
To be honest, I didn't know of this introduction post until recently. I stumbled upon it by accident while looking at achivements 😄
To be honest, this is bringing me out of my comfort zone - a lot
Anyway, let's get on with the introduction!
Born back in 1989, I grew up during the 90s and had a good childhood - most of the time - as far as I remember, despite the fact I was bullied a lot during my years in primary school.
Back in kindergarten - guess who is me
Before primary school
A few weeks before I started in school, I was on a trip with the kindergarten. I remember it was a sunny day, warm and great weather. As the trip was about to end, we were all walking towards the train. Being 5-6 years of age, all children were a bit wild, running along the grass, up on the sides of the path we were walking on etc., and being aware of your surroundings is not too important when walking on a footpath.
I ran down the side where I had previously ran up, went a little too far and boom!!
There was a bike on the footpath. The guy on the bike fell off the bike and was quickly on his way.
As for myself, I couldn't walk properly for 4 weeks. The doctor said it was just the knock on the knee where the bike hit me that was causing more pain than usual - i did definitely not have a broken leg.
And so, my dad kept saying I was a whimp for not walking.
4 weeks after the incident, we went to the hospital and had an xray. Lo and behold, I had broken my leg. Just below the kneecap, which was very lucky that it wasn't just 3 mm higher, that it would have destroyed my knee. And then I had my leg put in plaster (this sounds weird, but that is what the translator said it's called).
6 weeks with a leg I couldn't move. Thankfully I had people writing on it so it was more fun to wear.
I started school while my leg was covered in this nicely looking thing.
Primary school
During the years in Primary School I wasn't quite over the accident period yet, although it took a few years before it really took off.
1st
First accident that I remember was in 1999. I was running away from some of the older kids who I had been teasing and was about to run through a door.
The unfortunate thing is that the door openen inward where I was running out. I stretched my arms out in front of me and smack! My arms had gone through the glass, breaking the window and cutting my pinky almost off (glass went about 60% through the finger) and nearly ripped open my wrist. Actually the wrist was ripped open and I could see the tendons. Luckily it was 2 mm away from the main arterie, so no major injuries, thankfully!
Me and my siblings
2nd
Second time came in the same year, believe it or not.
I had just been going through a long healing process with the injuries from the glass accident, had just gotten a new bike (restored my old one to be exact) and wanted to go for a ride.
So my siblings and I went for a ride. I'm the oldest, was 10 at the time and was by far the fastest of us. Riding along, not a worry in the world and... next thing I remember, I woke up at a hospital.
To this day I still have no memory of what actually happened, I have only been told what happened.
I was hit by a car and broke my leg, both thigh and shin. Apparently both of my younger siblings saw this - I can't imagine what it must have been like for them. I'm just happy it didn't happen to them.
This accident took a long while to get over (actually still haven't gotten over it fully as I still deal with issues caused by it).
Before the accidents
As a little side note I can add, that 6 days prior to my 10th birthday, my dad had a car accident and lost his leg. This was January 8th, 1999. What a year to forget, huh?!
Cause and effect
The cause all the accidents has had on my adult life, I think, is that is has made me a calm person. I don't take offence easily and I do my best not to put others at risk. I do still take some risks myself, but it's not too many, and not too dangerous 😆
Strangely enough, the docters also discovered (at least that's what they said) an un-even hairgrowth in my beard...
Call that beard one more time??
Selfie (one of the few I have) taken in an office at work
Adult life
In my adult life I have been trying to play a lot of football (that's soccer for you American guys). "Trying" because the accident with the car has made my back quite poor and hence I can't do too much of that.. Most of the time I try to ignore the back pain and just go along with whatever I want.
Due to the injuries I had, I also picked up many other social activities such as poker (this was a big part of my life for a long period - I still enjoy playing, but not the amount of time as before), programming (websites, that is) and lately my interest in crypto, finance and investment has been on the rise.
Poker
In all honesty, I started playing again recently after a long, long time without it.
It feels good to be back at the tables, and a big reason for this is Hive Poker Community by . This brought me to create an account with Rebel Poker and play the Freerolls (that's a tournament with no cost for you) hosted called "HivePoker Freeroll".
In this tournament you can win $HIVE and they will be sent directly to your wallet. Quite the feat!
You can read a bit about the last tournament I played in here
