This changing world we find ourselves in has become fixated on healthy eating, even here on Hive, but I have not seen one post on how to fatten up the family, ever since...that dreaded word that's on everyone's lips and which I refuse to use right now!
I've simply had ENOUGH!
As the food comes into the house, everything has to be sanitized like the son instructed. Beware of frozen foods too he told me as those horrid little things that's turned this world upside down, love being frozen as they stay alive much longer!
So I will show you how I've been fattening up my family ever since 'you know what' and it's up to you if you want to learn some tricks!
Well, I've always said the kitchen is my playground and the terms and conditions are set by me. Hubby knows not to ask questions if he sees me rushing into the kitchen with very little time to spare before dinnertime as it (time) has a tendency to run away with me when I'm doing stuff I enjoy, like Hiving for instance!
Of course I do plan ahead, as time is of the essence and we sometimes have guests in our bnb who order dinner at times.
There are none there now as we had to close down during lockdown; a massive loss for a little bnb!
I do NOT faithfully and obediently stick to recipes, oh no, that would make it plain boring.
Ever since 'that dreaded word which I refuse to use', the roles between us (hubby and I) and our sons have been reversed. My son who has researched the subject of you know what to death, made me promise that I will not set my foot inside any grocery store, nor the pharmacy, which are the only two places we're allowed to go to during lockdown.
Yep; the son's calling the shots now ever since the dreaded curse happened, and I'm not talking about the monthly curse that visits women as regular as clockwork as my old friend used to call it!
You know exactly what I'm talking about; the forbidden word.
I mean, we're still allowed to buy food and medicine, but nothing else; and now I'm even being denied that by the concerned/paranoid son!
So I will be obedient as far as leaving this house goes, but nothing's going to stop me cooking and baking and I don't think anyone around here wants me to stop doing just that;)
We can still have our cake and eat it can't we!
Just a plain Vanilla sponge cake with a topping of homemade Apricot Jam and a sprinkling of Coconut.
A spicy hot Chicken Curry is just the thing to chase away the blues and clear the sinuses!
Then I had to resort to tinned food to make another Spicy hot Bean & Chick Pea Curry; this one had us running for the tissues which is one of the hard-to-get items in the grocery stores:)
Whoever thought tissues and toilet paper would become so popular, not to speak of hand santizers, gloves and face masks which have been unobtainable for over a month already?
After a couple of days of eating all kinds of forbidden foods, hubby started complaining that his belt was getting tighter and the usual hole he uses was being stretched to its limit!
So the next meal was a healthy salad and my conscious was a little clearer!
That did not stop me from bread baking though - but it was a healthy wholewheat bread and burger buns.
Do you see what my tea towel's trying to tell me?
Who can resist the smell of bread and buns baking AND a burger patty sizzling to make a juicy Hamburger or two.
The man who was complaining earlier about the expanding belly, asked for a second burger!
I did add Nasturtiums to the plate as those are Nature's antibiotic.
...and if there's still space left, a simple slice of bread and jam! Or you could save it for teatime.
Ripe Fig Jam and Green Fig Preserve which we bought in the Overberg region in the Western Cape last month before the whole world got infected by the unmentionable word!
A closer look to tempt you even more!
So everyone, let's pray that this madness and sadness comes to an end very soon so we can all return to some sort of normality and get our sanity back!
The colours in the sky at sunrise are amazing this time of the year. Every morning when I walk towards the front door, an orange glow shines through the glass panel and then I know that autumn is on the way.
That is one thing that has not changed!
Take care my friends till next time!
Thank you for stopping by.
