Greetings, friends!
I am sharing another piece, after a long pause, that I did for my Western Shores project. All other illustrations are in watercolor and so is this one. I think that shall remain the standard for the whole set. Of about...70+ unique artworks for the cards.
Gladly, since I am not much of a painter, I have the immense support of who does most of the illustrations. I think we have a bit above 15 now.
And this one is what I would call the first collaboration on a single image.
I asked to help me with the sky after I destroyed it for about the fifth time. She practically made the whole sky look normal and she helped me with the new reflections that the water needed.
Of course, we lost some good things. It's always like that with painting, especially with watercolor. If it does not work from the start, some of the good things of that start are gone along with the mistakes you try to edit.
I made one snapshot before the last sky destruction I was speaking about. I took it because it was the time to start drawing the little ships and a silhouette on the rocks to the right. And I was afraid I might butcher everything as I often do.
Well, of course, the previous version had some advantages, as is true for each stage we've gone through. It had some advantages to the current version.
Here's the one I captured...
The sky to the right was quite good here. Actually, I think it was hers, also. She showed me how to do it. I did not remember. Obviously. That's a different style than the skies I usually paint. The left part lacked natural logic, altogether. The shadows didn't fit.
... so I started a process that spiraled down and out of control.
Thanks to my talented partner, we have a version that will work, in the end. So, let me try this post beneficiary thingie...
