Crecí bajo la creencia del Budismo, específicamente, el Budismo de Nichiren Daishonin. Esta basado en los escritos del Sutra del Loto, el cual consta de 28 capítulos. Indica que la flor crece en un horrible pantano, pero termina siendo la más hermosa. Además, se centra en un estado de amor compasivo como estado supremo. Trata de hacer entender que todos tenemos un espíritu de buda en nuestro interior que puede llegar a alcanzar la iluminación y que somos capaces de lidiar con todos los obstáculos que aparecen en nuestra vida. Esta desviación del budismo tradicional que muchos conocen, siempre me parecerá la más interesante.

Desde que era niña, mis padres hacían reuniones budistas, en las cuales se hablaban de extractos de Sutra de Loto y se debatían los diferentes puntos de vista que se tenían acerca de él, hasta llegar a una conclusión final. Antes de efectuar estos diálogos y actividades, se realizaba una oración extraída de una liturgia, que constaba de oraciones silenciosas y luego la oración recitada en japonés, extraída del sutra del loto. Recuerdo que me sabía esa oración de memoria, ya que la efectuábamos numerosas veces en el día. Toda la asociación budista a nivel mundial se llama Soka Gakkai, y cada país tiene su propia sede. La personas practicantes se dividían por edad: Grupo Futuro (entre 5 a 12 años), Grupo de Estudiantes (entre 13 a 21 años), División Juvenil Masculina o Femenina por separado (22 a 35 años), y por ultimo, División de Damas y Caballeros (de 35 para adelante).

Cada división o grupo lleva actividades acabo acorde a su posición, habían responsables de división, una directora general, un director a nivel mundial, etc. Realmente muy bien organizado, sin embargo hubo un punto en el que mi familia y yo sentimos que se tergiversaba un poco las enseñanzas del Nichiren. A mis padres les llegaron a pasar cosas terribles y algunos budistas decían que capaz estaban bajo la ley de Causa y efecto (la cual está muy intrínseca en las enseñanzas de Nichiren), dando alusión a que capaz mis padres hicieron un mal muy grande. También recriminaban que si no hacías tus oraciones (algo así como rezar) te iba a ir muy mal, que debía orar por HORAS para que te vaya bien, y también distorsionaban algunas cosas para beneficio propio. Básicamente vimos como había algo mal en los grupos en donde estábamos y nos alejamos, al igual que muchos otros.

No obstante, mis padres y yo aunque no practicamos la religión como tal, tomamos muchas enseñanzas de vida que plasmaba Nichiren, una de ellas es que hay que trabajar duro para obtener lo que quieres, y que todo está dentro de nosotros mismos, no hace falta culpar a factores externos de todo lo malo que nos pasa.

I grew up under the belief in Buddhism, specifically Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism. It is based on the writings of the Lotus Sutra, which consists of 28 chapters. It indicates that the flower grows in a horrible swamp, but ends up being the most beautiful. It also focuses on a state of compassionate love as the ultimate state. It tries to make people understand that we all have a Buddha spirit within us that can reach enlightenment and that we are capable of dealing with all the obstacles that appear in our life. This deviation from traditional Buddhism, which many people know about, will always seem to me to be the most interesting.

Ever since I was a child, my parents have held Buddhist meetings at which they have discussed excerpts from the Lotus Sutra and debated the different views they have about it, until they reach a final conclusion. Prior to these dialogues and activities, a prayer from a liturgy was performed, consisting of silent prayers and then the prayer recited in Japanese, taken from the Lotus Sutra. I remember that I knew this prayer by heart, as we used to pray it many times during the day. The entire worldwide Buddhist association is called the Soka Gakkai, and each country has its own headquarters. The practitioners were divided by age: Future Group (5-12 years old), Student Group (13-21 years old), separate Male or Female Youth Division (22-35 years old), and finally, Ladies and Gentlemen Division (35 years old and up).

Each division or group carries out activities according to their position, there were division heads, a general director, a director worldwide, etc. It was really very well organized, but there was one point where my family and I felt that the Nichiren teachings were being misrepresented a little bit. Terrible things happened to my parents, and some Buddhists said that they may have been under the law of cause and effect (which is very intrinsic in Nichiren's teachings), alluding to the fact that my parents may have done a great wrong. They also reproached you for not doing your prayers (something like praying) and saying that you should pray for HOURS to do well, and they also distorted some things for their own benefit. We basically saw how there was something wrong with the groups we were in and walked away, as did many others.

However, my parents and I, while not practicing religion as such, took many of Nichiren's life teachings to heart, one of which is that you have to work hard to get what you want, and that everything is within ourselves, so there is no need to blame outside factors for everything bad that happens to us.
