Hello to the Hive!
I am taking up the 30 day Blog challenge set by and pointed out to me by

Creating the 3 Wheeled Eco Beast!
I wanted to put together a post about how we created an eco tricycle here in the Philippines for my wife to use. I was inpired to do this post from reading
s post about building his schwinn chopper. As we'd used a Schwinn tricyle for our project.
About 6 years ago we came across this lovely tricycle in Cebu City and after about half a dozen visits and the offer of a discount we bought it. wasn't keen on riding a scooter here so this gave her transportation and the ability to carry shopping and most of all personal freedom. The added bonus of keeping fit thrown in.
Sometimes though with a heavy load on an incline it proved to be a little too much of a workout and after mentioning it one day suggested adding some electrical assitance.
Eco trike plan was hatched!
After a little research put a plan forward and said on his next visit back to the UK he could purchase the necessary items and showed us his idea
So we decided on the Voilamart 250 watt 36volt 26” front wheel electric conversion kit.
What you get
-Brushless hub motor in A 26” front rim.
-Controller box
-Brake lever with cut off switches to cut the power when the brake is applied
-Twist throttle, which we changed for the thumb lever
-pedalec ring that fits on the crank so the motor will run as you peddle and don’t need to use the the thumb throttle.
Putting it together rather than use lipo battery we used 3 12v 17ah lead acids wired in series. The weight and size were not a big issue with the trike as they would be on a bicycle. A little less room for groceries but more power to get them home!
Instructions simple enough the plugs are all coded so it’s not too hard.
In addition to the motor we put 12v front and rear led lights and a horn wired from one of the battery’s and linked to a normal motorcycle handle bar switch.
commented that if he did it again he’d probably go for the 500watt motor to give it a bit more power for the hills but it runs well enough. For a bike better to go for the rear wheel conversion not the front or a mid mount kit which are becoming more common now.
This is not only the coolest tricycle in town but deceptively fast too.
Now the 3 wheeled eco beast flies along very nicely. No issues with carrying heavy loads home and can reach the dive centre from home in the same amount of time as on a scooter. AND she's a pretty cool looking trike! And very eco friendly. Hope you liked the post guys. This was a real collaboration between myself and
