Not a good start to the day yesterday. As the boys and I headed out to take them to school I saw one of our toms had been eaten. The damn birds are too big to get out of the sheep pen so dummies stayed out over night as they boys had not seen they were not in the coop. Well, one got eaten and I am still pretty mad about it.
It took me a while to calm down and I had to focus on other things after hauling the corpse off. My plane is a good change of focus so I got my drill out and popped the hole in the console to mount the phone holder. It is perfect placement and my USB power cord reaches it with ease. My phone will be my GPS and map while flying.
It was dry most of the day so I took the chance to get the potatoes out of the cart and weighed. This first box ended up 40 pounds and the second box 45 pounds for a total of 85 pounds of potatoes from just the one row. The boxes got set in the house where it is warmer to keep drying. Today I am going to setup little fans to make sure that both are dry fully.
Then before noon I had to dive into the acorn squash. They have pretty well taken over the section of the garden and when I started pulling them out to piles I was a bit surprised by how many there were.
The garden cart got backed up the row to the piles and I loaded it up to take to weigh. I have 4 boxes full in barn with 101 squash for 212 pounds. A few of them are on the bit too big side but most are all around the 2 pound range. Today I will see if the co-op might be able to use them... (I really hope they can).
Later in the afternoon I made it out to the greenhouse to pick the tomatoes which gave me a pretty consistent 12 pounds.
I had cucumbers to pick as well and there was 35 of them big enough. These are all ours now as I am not selling anymore of them.
I was headed out to pick squash when a little bout of rain came through. I hid in the hangar until it passed and I could go pick.
Thankfully the squash is nearing the end for the year. I am going to start pulling some of the plants as they are largely done with their major production and I have not sold much this year. The 8 pounds went to the cooler which I need to cull a bunch of the older squash.
Traffic was atrocious but we made it to the "not-a-time-share" meeting. It was a standard sales pitch but FAR FAR less pressure than others. I could see the benefit of their system but having just spent the same amount on my plane we are not in a place to be able to do something like it.
After we drove 2 doors down to the Pint House for dinner and drinks. The burger was outstanding, very similar to the Royal Rad Robin burger with the egg on top. Super messy but delicious, we both had the same.
We were home late but still went to soak. It dumped rain on us the whole time. I got my order of plane parts which I dug through and got my radio out to play with.
Today I have a bunch of things to do. I am trying to learn my new radio, I have to pick beans, sort my parts order, get fans on the potatoes, prep the trailer for my grain run tomorrow morning, start pulling squash plants, and I really need to adjust the headlights on my truck as it has a lazy eye right now.
