My back up helper and helper friend got here around 8AM. My helper friend did the foliars and then ran the vacuum around the house. My backup helper and I packed up and went up to the barn to clean freezers.
I only have one freezer running for overflow stuff. It just needed defrosting and inventory.
We got the tops cleaned up, packed up again, and went back to the house by 9:30. There was a bunch of 2 year old broccoli that we composted and got the boxes in the dishwasher.
Then we went out and found the tools my tenant will need and got started cleaning up the woodshed. There’s now room for digging holes to plant posts along the walls. We finished this by 10:30.
My backup helper wanted to learn about the dehydrator. So we went out and deadheaded some echinacea to dehydrate for chickens. It only filled 3 or 4 trays.
So we went out to the Big garden and picked a lot of nasturtiums and their leaves to dehydrate. When I went out, I found 2 Hungarian paprikas on the back steps where my helper friend had forgotten them. Those were sliced very thin and put in the dehydrator also. All this filled it up. We cleaned up and it was time for her to go.
It was at noon I discovered I’d forgotten to finish the milk order. So I hastily called it in. Chaos Friday….
I had a doctor’s appointment in mid afternoon and there was a huge threat of pretty bad thunderstorms forecast into the evening. In running around to shut windows, I saw the sunflower in the New Herb garden had opened. I got ready to go in a lull in the storms.
I got to the appointment only to be told it had been cancelled and they didn’t know why it had been made in the first place because the doctor is never in on Fridays. Chaos Friday…. But another doctor had an opening so I got through that visit and we headed home.
This week’s zucchini…
I got home and there’s a message that because of the severe weather, no one wanted to venture out and drive in it, so dinner Friday night was cancelled. Of course, when the time to leave rolled around, it was sunny and hot again and the storms were gone. Sigh….Chaos Friday…
West of Steps garden – black-eyed susans
I’d given away a lot of artichokes on Thursday because I didn’t have time to cook them for the next few days. But I’d noticed that there were at least 2 ready to pick when we went out for the nasturtiums. So I zipped out and picked 4 for supper before it could start raining again (which it never did…)
I really must get out into the Big garden and finish the mulching and weeding. It’s been a couple weeks since we were out there. Maybe on Saturday morning, it’s supposed to be a nice day, only hitting low 80’s in the afternoon. As is Sunday, I could probably finish it, if I can get moving in the mornings…
