On Monday morning I got an early start and was already when my backup helper arrived. The truck had started and we headed out to move mulch hay. We got this big pile moved into the garden.
We also got 5 bales of straw (not thrilled) and 14 bales of hay. This gives me about 85 bales for the garden, plus the 10 – 12 in the driveway, and the loose pile. I’m not in bad shape for next year.
I heard from the hay guy. He’s supposed to come out to see about cutting the pastures for 3rd cut.
While we were zipping back and forth doing the mulch, the wood guys were stacking the last of the 5 cords in the old shed. It filled it right up well.
I don’t do much baking, you could say none, but I’d wanted to make zucchini bread a couple days ago and wasn’t able to. We had ½ hour before my helper left, so I set her to grating the big zucchini. It made 4 cups and to do 3 recipes/loaves I needed 4½ cups, so she grated the tiny one and there was enough.
I didn’t have applesauce called for in the recipe, so I substituted bananas. I didn’t have oil either, so I substituted cashew butter. I don’t do wheat, so I used millet flour.
I made one loaf first and baked it to make sure it would come out alright. It was delicious, as you can see. Then I made the other 2.
As usual, I was pretty done in by the time I finished and spent the rest of the afternoon on the couch watching videos. My son got another walkway done and there’s not much mulch left. I will have to have another load brought in.
In the Big garden the tomatoes are starting to ripen. I see a tomato sandwich will be for lunch tomorrow.
The Hungarian paprika has 1 that’s ripe too.
Dusk on another cool night, good for sleeping.
Tuesday my intern is coming and we are getting the onions ready to braid and hang to cure. Then we put all the stuff for the table away, if the truck starts…. We’ll probably be eating zucchini bread too, and I never did get the green beans processed, so maybe we’ll get that done too.
