Early morning looking out the front door to the New Herb garden
On Thursday I woke to a crash day, not sure why. I managed to get the freezer containers put away properly and morning chores done.
But I was back in bed by 9:30 and my son woke me up at 10:30.
I had set up to make 3 more loaves of zucchini bread but discovered I was again out of bananas and I needed more flour. A friend was coming in early afternoon and would take me to the store to get them.
I finally got started on the bread at 3:30 in hopes of having it done by 5 PM when my tenant arrived home. But it wasn’t done until 5:30. We grabbed a couple of warm slices and headed out to the barn to get the truck.
The job was to go to Lowes to get landscape timbers and concrete. My tenant was going to put them up as support inside the new shed to protect the walls from the weight of the wood.
We got into the truck and he turned it on and it went berserk. It sort of started, but the starter wouldn’t disengage and it wouldn’t shut off even when the key was turned to the lock position! We finally got it stopped and sat there a minute. I went and tried it again and it started to run, but again the starter wouldn’t disengage and it ran the battery down.
It looks like I’m going to be paying for a new starter and ignition in the near future. So we got the coolers out of the car and headed over, going the back way because of construction on the usual way across the river. It took much longer to get there, but not as long as being stuck in evening traffic with the students returning to UMass in construction.
We had a hard time finding the wood, walking the length of the store twice. But we finally found them, got them loaded, loaded up the 12 bags of concrete and checked out. The cashier had agreed to watch the cart as we could only get half the load in the car at a time.
We got back, got the car unloaded, grabbed more zucchini bread as it was now 7PM and we’d had no supper, and went over for the rest of the load. By now the traffic had diminished and we could go the usual way, much faster.
I remembered we’d not gotten string and gas for the weedwacker so another walk the length of the store and then we got the car loaded the 2nd time.
We got back by 8PM and it was nearly dark. He unloaded the car and I got evening chores done.
It had been a hot afternoon but it was pleasant driving with the windows down on the last trip over as it cooled down fast. But the house was still too hot for sleeping and I never got to bed until nearly 10PM.
Chaos Friday entails inventorying and maybe defrosting the barn freezer, moving the wood and mess in the shed so my tenant can work, and finding all the tools he needs.
Then I go to a doctor’s appointment again on the long way across the river (Friday afternoon, students returning, construction) and when I get home I have to get ready to go out to dinner with friends.
There’s supposed to be bad weather moving in during the afternoon, so that puts our plans up in the air as to what we are doing and where we are going. It’s going to be a long day, but productive, I hope.
