There lives a diligent gardener named Ama. Ama had a passion for growing her own vegetables, especially tomatoes. Every year, as the summer sun ripened her tomato plants, she eagerly awaited the bountiful harvest.
As the tomatoes began to blush with vibrant hues of red and orange, Ama knew it was time to start preserving them to avoid spoilage. With a determined spirit and a bit of knowledge, she embarked on her preservation journey.
Firstly, Ama carefully plucked the ripest tomatoes from the vine, making sure to handle them gently to avoid bruising. She then washed them thoroughly to remove any dirt.
Next, she prepared her canning equipment, ensuring that everything was clean and sterilized to maintain the freshness of her tomatoes.
With precision, Ama sliced the tomatoes into uniform pieces, discarding any overripe ones. She arrange the spiced tomatoes in an oven tray, and place the tomatoes inside the oven. Then put on the oven at the lowest heat
She blended the tomatoes with a little drop of water.
To enhance the flavor and shelf life of her preserved tomatoes, Ama added a sprinkle of salt and a few fresh basil leaves to each jar. She then sealed them tightly with lids and placed them in the boiling water bath for the recommended processing time.
As the jars gently simmered in the bubbling water, Ama couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction knowing that she was preserving the fruits of her labor for the months ahead. After the prescribed time had passed, she carefully removed the jars from the water bath and set them aside to cool.
Once cooled, Ama listened attentively for the satisfying "pop" of the lids, indicating that a proper seal had been achieved. With a smile of contentment, she labeled each jar with the date of preservation before storing them in a cool, dark pantry.
Throughout the winter months, Ama would delight in the sweet and tangy flavor of her home canned tomatoes, adding them to soups, sauces, and stews. And as she savored each bite, she couldn't help but feel grateful for the abundance of nature and the simple joys of preserving her harvest to avoid spoilage
