I've been suffering from low energy recently, what with the emotions flying about the Presidential Election turmoil and everything... So, I've not been getting as many posts out other than my stories (still writing... at 18k of 50k for the nanowrimo challenge for 2020.) So, I decided to share one of the crazy ethereal experiences my family have had...
This happened a number of years ago when we still lived in England and my elder daughter was 2 or 3. See, children are able to see many things that adults cannot. We should always take what they see seriously - even if it seems ridiculous or impossible.
Thankfully, as we'd already had some weird experiences (which I will cover at a later time) and had previously delved into the idea of mythical things not being so mythical, I was open to what might happen next.
Terrorizing a Young Child...
So, one day, my young daughter (then 2 or 3, I cannot remember the exact year) came running to me telling me that a "dragon" was chasing her!
I wasn't sure what to think, but had read enough to know that real dragons (as experienced in the ether - where they retreated after being persecuted) are protective, not harmful. (Though the European dragons may be different - not sure on that front.) So, I was fairly confident that whatever was chasing her, it wasn't a dragon.
Problem was, I also wasn't able to see it.
That's not unusual for me - of my spiritual gifts, vision isn't usually one of them (with a few notable exceptions.) I am not clairvoyant - unlike my daughter.
I wasn't sure what to make of my daughter's dragon for awhile...
Through a Child's Eyes
Another day, my youngest son (then about 7 or 8) caught a glimpse of the creature through the corner of his eye and described it to me.
Its body was like that of a dragon, with a rooster's head and feet.
Now, I had something to go on!
Identifying "mythical" things
It's a difficult thing to research a "mythical" beast - and I didn't have JK Rowling's book to go on either. So, I did the best I could... and came up with this: A Cockatrice.
It doesn't help that sometimes people misidentify things on the internet... often confusing the cockatrice and the basilisk (strange, but it was a problem for me.)
Resolving the Issue
The next step was to work out what to do about it! I don't believe in making trouble unnecessarily, but if this creature was harassing my child, it simply had to go.
I discovered that the creature doesn't like its own image, so we dowsed with rods to work out where it was coming into the house (a vent from the outside commonly used in the UK to combat damp.) Then, I placed a mirror facing towards the outside over that vent.
We didn't have any further issues from this creature.
WOW.
Just goes to show that no matter how much we think we understand the world around us, there's so much more that we don't know, can't see and don't yet believe!
