Weekend Cravings
I wanted to eat something. So I went to the kitchen to eat.
My sister wanted to eat something. So she dragged me to this ramen place not too far away from our place. She's not confident in my manual car driving skills so we also had to drag our father along. LOL.
So yeah, we reached the place which we thought at first was closed. It was around 3:00pm and a very lazy hour for the restaurant. The crew who were idly sitting sprung up and took their posts when they saw us come.
Dayotayo Takoyaki and Ramen
Dayotayo is located in Brgy. Muzon 1st, San Luis, Batangas. It's funny confusing for some because there are two towns that cover this barangay - the northern side is under the Municipality of San Luis, while the opposite side is under the Municipality of Alitagtag. This restaurant is under San Luis albeit it is geographically closer to Alitagtag.
The restaurant is a simple nipa-hut style made of bamboo -- not your typical Japanese Restaurant. Their menu is printed on a large vinyl poster at the wall which you can refer to when you order at this counter.
The ramen, which my sister came here for, was not available. The ramen prices range from Php 240 to Php 290 (~$4-5).
Since Raman was not available, we ordered takoyaki and rice bowls.
I was able to take a couple of photos of the restaurant while waiting for our order to come.
This side of the wall is not made of bamboo, but of rattan, if I am not mistaken. It is accented by some faux grass. There were also a few Japanese lanterns to add more character to the place.
Dig in!
My son ordered chicken katsu rice bowl -- that's breaded chicken strips drizzled by some sauce on top, with some shredded veggies on the side.
Son said it was "okay", while for me, it did not taste so chicken-y (is that a term?!). It looked good, though.
Dad, on the other hand, ordered Ebi Katsudon -- breaded shrimps over a bowl of rice. He had already started eating when I stopped him so I could take a photo! Sorry, Tatay! Lol.
His comment -- "what, you paid $$ for this?!" Hahaha!
Now for the Takoyaki --
These are Cheesebomb Takoyaki, Php 230 for a dozen -- about twenty pesos ($0.35) a piece. It's tasty. They were topped with melted cheese that taste similar to the cheese slices we put in burgers. Eden cheese?
My daughter liked it. For me, maybe I was just not too hungry at that time, I was not really impressed. I don't know, but I don't understand the kind of attention Filipinos give to takoyaki these days.
These are Octo-bits Takoyaki. Can you guess why such a name?
You're right. There are small pieces of octopus meat inside the takoyaki. It was topped with some sauce and mayonnaise, and some flakes, I don't know what they were. LOL.
Perhaps it was the timing -- I already ate when we went here so I was not really hungry -- that the food did not really hit me as extra. They were just so-so. Maybe my verdict would be different if I went there famished. LOL.
Maybe next time. Maybe the ramen will be exeptional.
