By the way, when talking about neighbors, I have one very good neighbor, he always gives me egg whites every month, especially during Ramadan, he can even give me a lot of egg whites. He said he got the egg whites from his boss in the office who had a side business of pineapple cakes.
As a connoisseur of egg whites, I am certainly very happy with the gift. We know that egg whites are very good as a source of protein, I often make various foods from egg whites, especially when on a diet, egg whites help me to nourish my body with high protein but very low calories.
But, because I often make healthy food out of egg whites for my diet, this time I want to make something interesting, a sponge cake made out of egg whites. Of course this is not diet food, emotionally, this cake is a food that will give happiness to those who eat it. Of course it has to be in a portion that is not excessive!
I will shape this sponge cake like a cut watermelon, because I have a special triangular cake pan. Wow, that would be very interesting wouldn't it? Ingredients;
- 200 gr egg whites (6 egg whites)
- 150 gr of sugar
- 200 gr of flour
- 50 gr cornstarch
- Pinch of Vanilla extract
- 65 ml of coconut milk
- 1 tsp ovalet
- Yellow and green food coloring
- Vegetable oil for greasing the cake tin
How to make watermelon sponge cake;
- First, you have to weigh the egg whites that will be used. Strain so that no dirt or eggshells get in. Then put it in the mixer bowl and use the highest speed in your mixer. Keep stirring until foamy.
- After that, slowly add the granulated sugar and ovalet. Continue to stir until the dough changes color to become whiter, a sign that the dough is right is if the mixer bowl is turned over. then it won't fall. Then slowly add the flour and coconut milk. Use a spatula to stir it so the dough doesn't get lumpy.
- Divide the dough into 3 parts, then add coloring to the other 3 bowls. Meanwhile, before putting the dough into the pan, grease the pan first with vegetable oil so it doesn't stick to the pan.
- Sprinkle the chia seeds on the surface of the pan and also the yellow dough.
- Pour the yellow mixture at the beginning, then the white mixture, and lastly the green one.
- Bake the dough in the oven at 200 degrees Celsius. Then after 20 minutes, lower it to 180 degrees Celsius.
- Watermelon sponge cake is ready to be served!
