Let’s talk breakfast ! Breakfast here is called PETIT DEJEUNER and for the French its often sparse and sober. The average French person usually has a large cup of coffee
(often with a lot of milk, Café au Lait) and a piece of baguette for breakfast.
There was a coffee machine with cups in our room so hubs had coffee but before we got in the car we needed something to eat. Croissants or baguette.
For the French its often dipped in the coffee or spread with butter and / or jam. Sometimes the baguette is also replaced or supplemented with croissants. But this all depends on the circumstances and the region. The bread may be replaced or supplemented with croissants.
Contrary to what many people think, croissants in France are not seen as bread, but as pastry. Well that’s what we found around the corner from that great apartment we had in Strasbourg.
A PATTISSERIE !!
I went to heaven when stepping into the place. So many nice things and that smell ! The morning was great already.
The french know how to make pastry. Every taste was available and the pastries were pieces of art.
Today, for the french this tradition of breakfast is used less and less. Many of the ways of breakfast that you encounter in the Netherlands, they are also familiar in France. It often happens that the French simply have too little time to eat breakfast. Then they don't have breakfast at all. This is actually the reason for the rise of bakery chains far beyond the residential core. These chains are located near the entrances and exits of motorways and along roads where a lot of commuter traffic passes. The person who gets into the car for work hastily and therefore without breakfast has just a little time to stop at such a baker to quickly buy a croissant or pain-au-chocolat. Ideal for those bakery chains. And they know their recipes!

we tried them all! And yes it’s better than at home, and yes my diet is fired before I went on holiday.
She is out the door!
Coffee was great aswell. Really steaming hot in a little mug. The café au lait is really only used for breakfast. The later it is in the day, the less often milk is added to the coffee. If you order a cup of coffee after lunch or dinner in a restaurant, it is generally very difficult to have it served with milk.
We didn’t try.
The breakfast is done, we are in our way to Germany. We are going to the next stop. Want to know what that stop is ?
